Firewall Problem Error 0x8007042c

Hello!
I'm trying to solve a problem with my Windows firewall. I have error code 0x8007042c.
I've tried all the methods indicated on the Windows site: Malware scanning (I found hacktool:win32/keygen and hacktool:win32/Neropatch), going through services (control panel/administrative tools/services... and I get error 1068), the method with repair.bat... I have also contacted the Windows chat service several times. Each representative advised me something different from the previous one... and nothing has worked... the problem being, of course, that they can't take control of my computer since I no longer have internet. It was actually while searching for the cause of this outage that I came across this firewall issue (and I'm hoping that resolving the firewall problem would help me get my internet back... which is the goal of all this!)
I'm doing what I can, reading lots of forums, but I'm a bit (a lot) lost and I don't know what to do anymore.
If you could advise me, it would be just WONDERFUL...
Thank you in advance for your responses!
Cécile

Hello,

- Are you sure that your internet connection issue is related to your firewall? (AV analysis + spyware + connectivity tests on your box on a remote IP)

- There is a procedure to restore the default settings of your firewall in case of a big issue.

I'm giving it to you: in the command prompt run in admin mode type: netsh advfirewall reset

Hello!
-No, I'm not sure that my internet problem is related to the firewall, it's just that while trying to solve this internet problem, I came across this firewall issue.
-However, I did test the connectivity with another computer and it works fine.
-In all the problems I had, AVAST also stopped working. I ended up downloading a Windows tool to at least perform a scan, and that's how I found the two malware programs mentioned above.
-Thank you for the suggested command... but I don't know how to do that...

Thank you for the response!

Hi,

To see what's going on:

Follow the FRST tutorial. ( take the time to read carefully - everything is well explained ).

Download and run the FRST scan,
Wait for the scan to finish, a message will indicate that the analysis is complete.

Three FRST reports will be generated:
  • FRST.txt
  • Shortcut.txt
  • Additional.txt

Send these 3 reports to the site https://pjjoint.malekal.com/ to share them.
In return, provide the 3 pjjoint links leading to the reports here in a new response so that we can review them.

Hello again,
Thanks for the tutorial... I did everything as instructed, downloaded it on my working computer, pasted it on the patient's desktop, but when I launch FRST64 on that one, it says "searching for updates, please wait" and I can't click on "Scan" because I no longer have the cursor, but the blue circle is spinning...
What should I do?
Thank you a thousand times for your replies...

Not cool,

Do this first:
Press Windows + R
Type msconfig
Go to the Services tab
Click on the manufacturer column to sort the services by manufacturer.
Check everything that is Microsoft
Click OK and restart the computer

And at worst, try in safe mode for FRST.

What version of Windows is it?

The version is Windows 10 version 1608

I did what you told me, but everything was already checked actually. Most of them with the status "stopped", a few with "running"...
So, I couldn't modify anything at all...

Uh, how do we do safe mode then (sorry, I'm really a beginner!)?

Are you sure that all Microsoft services are checked?
Because error 1068 is a dependency problem... Or maybe a service like BFE has been deleted, for example by malware.

Another solution, since your Windows 10 is not up to date,
is to update to the latest version.
That could fix everything.

The problem is that you need to be sure that you don’t have a virus; otherwise, the update could go wrong.

For safe mode, check here, everything is explained:
- safe mode,
or: https://www.malekal.com/demarrer-windows10-mode-echec/

Yes, everything is checked...
I am starting in safe mode and then I will launch FSRT...

Well, no virus.
Uninstall Avast!
and update Windows 10.. that should fix the firewall.

Manually install the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update 1709, see:
- https://www.commentcamarche.net/faq/48417-windows-10-1709-installer-la-mise-a-jour-windows-10-fall-creators-update

It takes at least 1h30 to install.
So if you need the computer, don’t do it now.

So, Avast, I've already tried to uninstall it because it was one of the things that wasn't working anymore, but I can't do it: When I click "uninstall," a window opens that only gives me the option to "repair" or "modify." I've tried both to see if there was a way to uninstall... but no...
So, I'm updating Windows 10 and I will update Avast afterwards?
Or do I absolutely need to uninstall Avast before updating Windows?
Finally, "install manually" means that I do it like with FRST, that is to say, I download it on the working computer and then copy-paste via USB onto the sick computer?
Thank you...

Use Avast! Cleaner in Safe Mode: https://www.avast.com/fr-fr/uninstall-utility

Oh well :-)... now that I know the principle of safe mode, I could have thought of it on my own...
Thank you for your patience!
I’ll do all that and come back to let you know...
Thanks!

Avast is successfully uninstalled. Not having a sufficiently large external hard drive or USB stick for the installation of the Windows update tool, I need to get one first and I'll continue tomorrow.
Thank you for your help throughout the day!

Hi!
I saved all my data as indicated on the site (hence the delay since my last message!), created a USB drive with the Windows update, plugged the USB key into my computer, and wanted to restart... but the start menu isn't working (I get the spinning blue circle again, then nothing responds...)
I saw on the site that in this case I needed to go into the BIOS by pressing F2 on startup, which I did... but then... which key(s) do I press??? I saw there was a BOOT tab, is that it?
Thanks in advance for the answer!

We're currently at update 1709: https://forums.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-34940746-probleme-pare-feu-erreur-0x8007042c#10
You just need to run the update assistant.

Well, I just rewatched the explanatory video. I'm sorry... but I still have some questions:
- If I understood correctly, it’s useless for me to create a system image because my Windows system isn’t working well, is that right?
- Since it’s the sick computer that I want to update, I downloaded from that computer onto an external drive. I now have a boot folder, an efi, a sources, a support, and three files: autorun, bootmgr, bootmgr.efi, and a setup.
What should I launch?
- And finally, in the video, you mention a password... A friend who set everything up for me initially says she didn’t set a password. Is there a way to check if there is a password and if so, how can I retrieve it?
Thank you.

The image is useless, indeed.
Then, in the tutorial, it says to create a Windows 10 installation key in case you only have one computer and if the update goes wrong and blocks everything.
It allows you to reinstall Windows 10.
It seems like you created it on an external hard drive, it would have been better on a USB stick.

I think you can directly start the update with the update assistant.

But I don't have internet on the sick computer (that was still the initial problem... :-) )

Oh no, I missed that info.
I focused on the firewall, sorry.

In that case, reset Windows 10: https://www.malekal.com/reinitialiser-windows-10/
That should reset everything to zero and the internet should start working again.

Okay, I've initiated the reset...
If I understood correctly, I will need to reinstall everything: Office, printer, and all that...
I hope it goes well, otherwise I'll have another 10,000 questions :-)))

ahah... it would be too easy... I have the following message:
"Reset this PC
We encountered a problem during the PC reset. Therefore, we made no changes" Then "Cancel"
When I clicked on "cancel", I have the choice between:
- continue and go to Windows 10" (but I'm already on Windows 10!!!!)
- Troubleshoot "Reset the PC or view advanced options"
- Turn off your PC

What should I do?
Thanks!

Just to be sure, do you have another computer handy with a working internet connection?
0
Cecile974 Posted messages 21 Status Member

Yes, the one from which I am communicating with you and on which I have downloaded the various files frst, avastclear, etc...

Okay, so start the reset and if it gets stuck or doesn’t go through: Reinstall Windows 10 from scratch.

From another computer:
- Download the Windows 10 installation ISO: https://www.microsoft.com/fr-fr/software-download/windows10
- Prepare an installation media on a USB drive or DVD by following the Media Creation Tool steps.

On the "sick" computer:
- Boot from it by modifying the boot sequence and indicating the USB drive or DVD: How to boot the computer from a USB drive
If the drive doesn’t work, try making another one with Rufus: how to download Rufus - see this tutorial for details: how to create a Windows installation USB drive
- Go to repair your computer
- Advanced options
and reset Windows.

If it gets stuck or is impossible.
Restart again from the USB drive or DVD.

Go to install Windows and follow the instructions to reinstall Windows.
- Follow the prompts to install Windows 10.
- Choose custom as the installation option.
- Proceed with the installation on this partition. Select the main partition.
The installer will tell you that Windows is already present and offer to move it.
Do not format under any circumstances.

Your user data will be copied into a subfolder of https://www.malekal.com/le-dossier-windows-old/.

Once Windows is installed, I advise you to follow these tips for properly configuring and using Windows: Tips after reinstalling Windows.

Wow... Okay, I'll try all of that.
I should first go buy a new USB stick, because indeed I only have an external hard drive that's large enough.
Thank you for these tips.
