Hello, I'm reaching out because my Asus laptop won't start anymore, or rather it starts (the indicator and fan are working normally) but the screen remains completely black and I can't turn off the computer; the power button is unresponsive just like the keyboard (impossible to capitalize or activate the numeric keypad, the indicators don't light up, and the Wi-Fi indicator is also off). I've tried removing the battery, pressing the power button for 30 seconds, and restarting but that doesn’t work; I've also removed and reinserted the RAM sticks and that doesn’t work either. I should mention that my PC runs Windows 10 (originally with Windows 7) and has never had any issues since I got it 4 years ago.
If anyone has a solution, I would be grateful as my computer is very important for my work.

Hello,

Do you have access to the BIOS of the PC at startup?

Tap F2 at startup to access it.

Please provide the exact model of your PC to be sure of the key.

Unfortunately, the screen doesn't turn on at all, I can't access anything. My PC is an Asus X70A.

Yes, strange that you can't stop it.

Try holding the power button for up to 1 minute (or longer) to see if it stops.

Tigri7500,

So can you turn it off if you insist?

If so, I would have an idea about your breakdown.

I pressed for 2 minutes and 30 seconds with no result. It's really strange.

Without worrying, one could have thought of a graphics chipset problem, so motherboard.

But here I don't quite see ...

What does the hard drive light do?
Another charger to test?
Leave it charging for 30 minutes without using it.

No lights come on except for the charging indicator when I plug the laptop into the mains before starting it, and the light in the shape of a bulb that remains constantly on, apparently. The hard drive light shows no sign of life.

And if you plug in a USB drive, do you hear a little sound?

--------------

There are different Asus X70A models (incomplete number), so I'm not sure if I'm looking at the right one...

If it's indeed this one, I see that you already know how to take it apart a bit.

So remove
the battery,
the charger,
the hard drive
and the BIOS battery (the flat battery like in the image)

Hold the power button for 1 minute

Reinsert the battery then the charger. (not the battery or the hard drive)

Try to start it.
And let me know what it displays (well, hopefully something displays)

Tigri7500, what does it give?

(it's just to see if we would have a "default" display)

I’ll test this when I get home tonight; I’ll keep you posted.

For your RAM:

Without the battery

Have you tried with only one stick (and not just swapping the two) in one slot then the other?
Same with the second one.( alone in one slot then the other)
try to boot after each manipulation.

I will try without the battery for the RAM.

Well, one by one, because it really looks like a RAM issue
(that's why I'm insisting on making sure to do the manipulation correctly)

I just did one after the other by restarting each time to check, but unfortunately nothing changes.

For now, I don't know what else to say...

We're back to a possible motherboard issue

Have you previously had display issues, like a very bright screen or "stripes"?

No, I have never had any problems with this computer. I'm going to get a quote from a repairman and I'll see if it's worth repairing or not. I'll keep you posted and thank you for the time you spent trying to solve my problem.

OK

If he tells you that the motherboard is dead (probably too expensive to replace), then the PC is dead, so go ahead and get it.

We will try, as a last resort, a "last chance" trick.
We won’t risk anything since it would end up in the trash otherwise.

Same with the second stick.

No, I absolutely have nothing displayed; the screen remains totally black, it doesn't light up. I have already tried all possible combinations with the RAM and I attempted to connect the computer to the TV with an HDMI cable without success. The same goes for the battery; I tried to start it only on AC power with no results.

> Illuminate the screen with a lamp and see if you can spot anything.

It's to check if the backlight is dead.

I just tried with my phone's flashlight, and it doesn't work. What seems strange to me as well is the fact that I can no longer turn it off with the power button; I have to remove the battery to turn it off.

I just tried unsuccessfully, I even replaced the BIOS battery with another one I had as a spare and it didn't work. However, I noticed that the fan wasn't working, I'm not sure if that's normal. I'm sending a photo of the PC where I've circled in red the fan that isn't working.

At first you say: the indicator and fan are working normally

Then: What also seems strange to me is that I can no longer turn it off with the power button

Then: No indicators light up except the charging one when I plug the computer into the mains before starting it and the one shaped like a light bulb that apparently stays constantly on

Then: On the other hand, I noticed that the fan wasn't working

In the end, everything contradicts itself.

You can't turn off your PC with power, maybe because it doesn't turn on and that it's not just a display issue.

Reassess the situation.
And provide photos of the indicators that light up at startup and afterwards.
(Go through everything before and make sure that we can clearly see the drawings next to the indicators)

I got the computer back, it works again!
The technician told me that the PC had gone into safety mode. So he cleaned the whole PC and changed the thermal paste.
All of that for €45, which seems like a reasonable price to me.
Thank you for your help.

I thought the fan was working because there was a noise that I thought was from the fan, but upon opening it, I found out it was not the case. I'm sending the photos.

hello

Salut frère.

Je fais face au même problème que toi. Puis-je le réparer à la maison ?
