Replace my central unit

Hello,

I bought my desktop computer along with its peripherals - a Compaq - back in 2010, originally running on Windows XP. Time passed, and I bought a printer, a wireless mouse, and a wireless keyboard. The central unit has gone from XP to Windows 7, then to 8, and finally to 10. However, it is now running very slowly, even though the tasks I require are simple: Word/Excel and Internet.

I understand that it's time for a new central unit, but I don't know what to choose: there are all models from all brands at all prices...

Can you help me??
Thank you in advance,

2010 isn't that old, and if it's lagging for word processing, there's a problem. Try resetting your PC; it could be a virus or something like that. Or if you really want to buy a new one, you have lots of choices. Get something that's not too expensive but also not too bad.

A machine from 2010, if maintained and well-configured, should be able to handle office tasks (I have a nearby example!):
    - a RAM upgrade can be beneficial,
    - a thorough system clean-up can help too,
    - an SSD can also provide a real boost but it's more expensive.
If your PC was already outdated in 2010 (risk with Compaq...) .... it needs to be replaced.

Can you provide the specifications of your setup?
Do you have a budget? Does the monitor need to be replaced as well?

For office tasks, a "very good" configuration (built to last), complete (monitor, etc...) should be around 600 to 700 euros.
For the CPU, entry-level should be around 300 to 400 euros.
