Disk at 100% all the time [Windows10]

Question

Hello,  I've noticed that my PC has been quite slow lately, taking a long time to start up. However, I've particularly observed that in the task manager, the disk is at 99% / 100% all the time (whether Chrome is open or not).  I've obviously searched to see if this issue already existed, and I've found plenty discussing the problem, but since every PC is different, that's why I'm creating my own thread.  I regularly run CCleaner / Adwcleaner / Malwarebytes on my PC, but my knowledge stops there, which is why I'm reaching out to you to help alleviate my PC's issues! Little question, the PC is at 100% even after 30 minutes of inactivity? I say this because my desktop PC I turn on once a month at most, and when I turn it on, it's unusable for a while since it looks for updates, updates Steam, Origin, looks for iTunes updates, the same for Java, Adobe, and so on! And since I only have a mechanical hard drive, it obviously struggles... (it runs at 7200 RPM after all, which isn't the worst)  I agree with what Malekal says, I really don't like cleaners, I only use Windows' built-in cleaners which will never damage anything and are unlikely to delete potentially useful things. I don't use Ccleaner anymore. (AdwCleaner, on the other hand, is effective) By the way, I use very few cleaners.  I messed up a computer with GlaryUtilities when I was much younger, that calmed me down and set my mind straight.  -- After solving your problem, don't run away... Good evening,  You'd better check the disk manager to see its usage... Task Manager is something else entirely..  Also, your photos are too small and unreadable and impossible to enlarge. It’s better to use the site cjoint.com https://www.cjoint.com/ to upload your photos and then paste the link here  It would be good to provide the exact type of your PC to have an idea of its power... and your version of Windows.  You might want to remove some unnecessary programs that start up with Windows... that would help it a lot.

Yes, so these photos are definitely better, I can read them.  -- Your disk is far from full.. It is partitioned... only the C: drive with 676GB is available to you out of the 750GB on the disk... and there is still 36% free space, there's still room...  -- One of the problems is that everything is mixed on this disk: Windows, programs, your documents and photos or videos.  -- Only access to Windows requires fairly quick access times; and not at all for the rest... the method would have required creating a much smaller partition (50GB) containing only Windows, which would increase access speeds instead of having to traverse the entire disk.  -- Another problem is that this disk does not spin fast (5400 RPM) https://www.cnet.com/products/hgst-travelstar-5k1000-hts541075a9e680-hard-drive-750-gb-sata-6gb-s/, so it takes longer to reach the information it contains. Moreover, it has only 8MB of buffer memory, which is quite little.  All these factors contribute to the machine's low performance in terms of speed.  -- What you see in your task manager, indicated at 100%, is not the capacity or fill level of the disk... But read the indications carefully, the line for  AVAST service for example shows 1.5 MB/s, it's the number of megabytes read per second for this task, and the 100% disk here means that the number of characters read is the maximum possible for this disk, it can't go any faster.  -- That’s why I explained the speed of the disk above. A faster disk with more memory could go faster, or wouldn't be at 100% for the same task...  I hope I’ve answered your questions; even though I don't provide a solution... it would require a different kind of PC or at least a more efficient hard drive that is partitioned differently..

Your PC isn't a speed demon, if you want it to go faster, you need to replace it with a faster and more powerful one.  That's what I explained to you... Your drive isn't full, there's 36% free... it's its speed that's at 100%, it can't go any faster, that's the problem... It's maxed out for what you're asking of it.  You can't do anything, other than slow down, ask less of it and it will be sufficient... otherwise, you picked the wrong PC for what you wanted to do with it...

As I have already told you repeatedly, your disk is not full; it has 36% of free space left.  It's rather that it's running at full capacity; it cannot go any faster, so if you want to free it up (speed-wise), you need to remove some tasks/applications.  @Malekal told you to uninstall AVAST... have you done it? It's the most resource-consuming.  I can give you another possible action... stop Winupdate... by a manual command... you do (Windows key + R), type cmd and you get a black window, and there you type net stop wuauserv ---> press Enter... you will get an acknowledgment message, okay.  And restart your PC.  It is important to understand that by doing this, you stop the updates... Well, you can run like this for several days and you'll see if your PC runs better and faster...  If later you want to restore the updates, you do the same command except you type net start instead of net stop. But it's up to you...! Windows 10 might be a bit too demanding for your PC..??

Hello,  You can try dedicating a USB drive to ReadyBoost to improve the loading times of certain applications. It's very simple to do, just plug a blank USB drive into your PC. Right-click on it, go to properties, and select the ReadyBoost tab. Then dedicate this drive to ReadyBoost and never unplug it from the computer.  This drive will essentially be an extension of your internal RAM and will allow for much faster access to certain information than going directly to the disk. Thank you for your responses  Uninstalling Windows Update, I don't think that's recommended... So that means the disk is running at 100% because of the installed applications? Because even at startup, with no applications open, it runs at 100%.  I've always had cacaoweb and my PC wasn't at 100% before ^^  Well of course I want to clean up my PC, but I don't know what to remove... Even though there are probably a lot of useless things, I don't know if I can get rid of them.  I uninstalled Avast, it didn't change anything.  And I can try the USB key yes :)  The system is taking up the most MB/s.  Next year I'm going to do a lot of 3D work on my PC, very resource-intensive software... What can you advise me?

I'm not asking you for the moon, just to try for a few days... to see what happens... and then you can put it back as it was, your PC won't suffer because of that..  You know, there are plenty of PCs that are never updated and still work fine...  You claim you don't know what to uninstall... When we've already told you what needs to be uninstalled.... but you don't want to do it, that's the real problem.  ... So, don't complain..

OK, for the first one, it's because you didn't run the command in "Administrator Mode" or from (Windows key + R) because with that command, you are in administrator mode.  The second error is because your USB key is not performing well enough… it's a low-end model or not large enough. The ideal is a 4GB Class 10.  The cause of Cacaoweb adds to the others.

I did make the command using Windows Key + R and I got this error message.  I found a USB drive, I plugged it in for ReadyBoost, the disk is at 99% with the System taking 2-3 MB/s.  So I don't see what I should uninstall (excluding cacaoweb)?

OK, I think this task needs to be active, that's why you can't stop it... You should go to the "Task Manager" ... Processes and look for wuauserv ---> stop the process...  Then, you should be able to execute the command...  But you should also be able to go to the control panel ---> Windows Update ---> change settings ---> Never check for updates... OK and restart the PC.  Have you uninstalled AVAST??  You can use "RevoUninstaller" https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/utilitaires/19405-revo-uninstaller/ and use it to uninstall anything that is not useful on your PC... and remove it afterwards too.  You can also use "JRT_news" https://assiste.com/Logitheque/Junkware_Removal_Tool_JRT.html and run it, it performs cleaning. A bit long and restart the PC  These are things you can do...

How could I optimize my PC? Make it faster? (without necessarily taking it apart and changing a part) Plus, next year I’m going to do a lot of 3D so resource-intensive software.. Thanks!

I doubt you can do 3D with this setup:  Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4200U CPU @ 1.60GHz Memory usage percentage: 66% Physical memory - RAM - total: 4026.15 MB  ~~  Then you have a lot of programs installed...   We need more info on what is happening. The link you gave me is for installing Windows 7???  I don't really want to reset because I have software that I don't even remember how I got and it's important ^^  Otherwise, which programs should be uninstalled? Because I probably have plenty that I don't use, and there are some I don't even know what they are.

I uninstalled all that, but I don't have WildTangent Games App  Yes, that's why the games I have are better suited to my PC..  However, there are many different software options on the link, which one should I use?
