Hello

I have a problem with Word 2016; when I press the space bar, it doesn't appear, and as soon as I press a letter, the space and the letter appear at the same time. It's very annoying because if I press the space bar 20 times, nothing happens, and when I press a letter, suddenly 20 spaces appear along with the letter I pressed.

The same goes for the enter key. For example, I'm on a line after the blinking cursor. I press enter, and nothing happens. When I press a letter, suddenly it enters and the letter appears (it skips a line and displays the letter at the same time, even though I pressed enter first and then the letter).

Help me please!

Good evening,

No, it's not a virus, don't worry!

It's just a little bug that some people encounter in the specific case you mentioned: entering text right before a section break. If you hit enter to start a new line, the problem should go away.

I feel like this bug occurs in 2013/2016 but not in 365. Personally, I don't have it on 365.

Make sure your updates are done.

I confirm the presence of this bug just before a section break. Thank you for your help.

Hello, I had the same problem and you need to press the P for paragraph to display all the characters, and for me it showed "continuous display" or something like that; you need to place the cursor before that and press delete.

Use another word processor, or fix the software you have.

Hello KenPotch,

It's very strange, so there might be a virus involved?

Do a complete scan with your antivirus, it might solve
the problem?

If so, please mark the topic as resolved; otherwise, I don't
have any other ideas to suggest.

I think it's Word that causes this on the school's PCs.

If it also happens on the school computers, then:

a) This might be the normal operation of Word 2016, but I doubt it!

b) I think this would rather confirm that it's a virus that has infected
the school computers; and then, by plugging in a USB stick that you
connected later to your own computer, the virus got installed on your PC.

Whether it's case b) or not, it's safer to perform a complete scan,
with a good antivirus: some free antivirus programs do not detect enough
of viruses; good luck!

A virus that causes this problem? Strange as a virus, I will do a complete analysis, thank you.

It indeed comes from Word. I'm on another PC that doesn't have this problem, but after creating my title, framing it, underlining it, changing its color, etc., I start to write and the problem returns. I haven't plugged in a USB key.

It just needs a line break and to write above it
you're welcome

Same for me!! Have you found anything since? (It's impossible that it's a virus, I have antivirus software, I've done tests... I think I've accidentally changed a shortcut)
In addition to not seeing spaces, I can write anywhere in the Word document just by double-clicking.

Hello,

It happened to me while writing my research paper because I had already set my bibliography using "page break to the next page." By deleting that skipped page, it returned to normal.

I'm sending this message in case it can help some people in the future.
