Removal of recently closed sites

Try this method,

Quit Safari,

From Finder, go to the Go menu / Go to Folder...

In the area that appears, type this path

~/Library/Safari/RecentlyClosedTabs.plist

Then throw away the "RecentlyClosedTabs.plist" file and empty the trash.

Restart Safari...

Unfortunately, on my Mac Book Air OSX Yosemite version 10.10.5, even after clearing the history, the "recently closed" line remains bold and when you hover over it, a number of sites appear on the right.

I tried, as you advised, to go through the Safari menu / Preferences / Privacy / Manage Data: all the history is definitely deleted, but the indications for "recently deleted" still remain...
Too bad, I will manage with it.

I followed your advice to the letter: response File not found.
I will abandon and delete one by one the sites appearing in recently closed by opening them and then deleting them from history.

I just reinstalled Yosemite (OS X 10.10.5) to be sure, and strangely for me, under Yosemite, the "Recently Closed" option does not exist. I do have this option under Sierra, but not under Yosemite.

However, it is indeed present under Sierra


So the question I'm asking is whether your Mac is really running Yosemite?

Even if the issue is resolved, it's just out of simple curiosity :)

I see that even the "pros" have surprises...
I checked the "Apple" menu and it clearly specifies "Yosemite"
Thank you again for your help.

Since this thing was really bothering me,

I went back under Yosemite, and I checked that everything is up to date,

Safari was on version 8...

By going through Software Update, it was upgraded to 10.1



After, I have the item "Recently Closed"

However, it works perfectly on my end. Clearing all history removes everything.

So, under a fully updated Yosemite, it works for me.

There must be a bug on your end. Maybe a system repair?
