Unable to connect my iPhone to my MacBook Pro

Hello,
I'm feeling a bit disheartened. I recently bought a MacBook Pro.
I managed to connect several things requiring a USB port thanks to an expensive cable/adapter (mouse, external hard drive, USB stick...).
Today, I wanted to back up my iPhone data: IMPOSSIBLE! Occasionally, when I plug in my iPhone, I hear the familiar "ding" indicating that something has been connected, and I can even click "continue" on my Mac when it asks if I authorize the device, and sometimes I can also click "yes" on my iPhone when it asks me if I authorize the device as well.
Then... nothing. iTunes doesn't recognize my iPhone! So I can't back up my data (and I'm going crazy).
I've tried everything according to Apple's recommendations found online.
If anyone has a solution, thank you...

Hello,
Can you go to: Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
Once that’s done, connect your iPhone to the Mac, it will likely ask you if you want to trust the computer so you will press "Trust"
Let me know if that works
Have a good evening,

Even a broken clock gives the right time twice a day

Are you up to date on iTunes and your iPhone?
