Hello,
I have a small problem every time I plug my external hard drive into my computer via USB, the disk disconnects and reconnects. I have tried all the ports but it happens every time. Does anyone have a solution, please?
Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 2.0.0.11

RESPONSE VALID FOR ALL WINDOWS:

Go to the classic Device Manager. Here since Windows 10:

"C:\Windows\System32\control.exe"

In the USB controllers, double-click EACH of the components to open their properties.

Once in the USB component properties panel, go to the "Power" tab and check that the USB devices do not exceed the consumption of the USB port, which is generally 500mAh. I had this problem because my Wi-Fi antenna consumed 200mAh and was connected via a hub with another device that consumed 450mAh, so we went over 500mAh and it was constantly bugging.

Then check in the "Power Management" tab that the computer is not allowed to turn off a component to save energy.

WARNING: Try to take your time to check each USB component so you won't forget anything. There you go, I hope those I've seen struggling for a long time will pass by here. I think this solution is the right one; I had tried everything, and it's only with this one that I am finally at peace. ;)

Given your advice after a rough evening.
Here’s a report after applying it: my USB ports are transmitting information to the printer. A huge thank you.
