Hello everyone,

Recently, the WiFi icon on my Acer Aspire 5750ZG laptop has disappeared and I can only connect to the internet via tethering with my iPhone.
I ran the troubleshooter and it indicates that if I have a network card, the driver is poorly installed and should be reinstalled.
I have scoured the forums for a solution and downloaded the three drivers offered on the ACER website: wireless LAN driver, but nothing works.
The network card no longer appears in Device Manager, so I cannot access its properties. I am using Windows 7, 64-bit.

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hello,
You mentioned that you no longer see a network card in the device manager; what do you see displayed instead?
    Best regards.

Here's what appears in the device manager when I'm no longer sharing my connection with my phone:

      PC
      >Other devices
---Ethernet Controller (here appears on the icon, a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark)
      >Battery
      >Graphics card
      >SD Host Card
      >Keyboard
      >Audio, video, game controller
      >USB bus controller
      >Storage controller
      >IDE ATA/ATAPI controller
      >Disk drive
      >DVDCD-ROM drive

Precision, by right-clicking on the Ethernet controller I can neither update the driver (message indicating that Windows did not find any updates) nor search for hardware changes. I do not know if this is important.

        Thank you in advance.

    On this line,

you apply what this PAGE suggests, you copy and paste the identification number of the equipment in a next response.

You download and install this driver, Broadcom_LAN_v12.1.59.01_allOS_64bit_PV.exe.

Thank you for your quick response, but to my great dismay, it hasn't worked despite several attempts. The following message appears: "The assistant was interrupted before the installation finished (...) no changes have been made to your system. To complete the installation later, please restart the installation."

I restarted the installation two or three times with and without connection sharing, restarted the PC, tried to update the Ethernet controller driver, attempted the assistant to troubleshoot again, and nothing works. I’m in the same situation as before. Thank you anyway for your help.

Thank you, apparently it’s the right driver, it has been installed correctly, the network card reappears in the device manager but there is still a small issue. I cannot connect, the Windows assistant is asking me to plug in the Ethernet cable but I am using Wi-Fi, I still do not have the Wi-Fi icon on my PC and I really don’t know what to do.

    Go to the Device Manager
    Click on --> Action
    Scan for hardware changes.

        Hello,
Is the wifi activated on the PC?
Try this driver, which is supposed to activate the wifi, Wireless LAN driver.
        Best regards.

        Hello,

I downloaded the driver which must have installed correctly because it restarted my PC, but still nothing on the Wi-Fi side. I performed a new hardware change search, but still nothing.
The only possible connection is through tethering with my phone or via Ethernet cable.

If the problem is recent, perform a system restore and choose a date prior to the issue.
Check out this tutorial --> System Restore Windows 7

      Hello,

my first reflex when the wifi problem appeared was to do a restore; I went back 2 months but nothing has changed on the wifi side.

    Run an sfc.
    Go to start
    All programs
    Accessories
    Right-click on --> command prompt
Choose --> run as administrator and confirm
Type --> sfc /scannow and hit enter.

A system file check will take place.

In the Network and Sharing Center, what do you have displayed regarding the connection?

"Local network connection" when I'm in hotspot sharing and "you are not connected to any network" when I turn it off.
I don't know if this is the information you were expecting.

In the left panel, click on modify settings
      Is the wifi card displayed?

In modifying the settings, I have the "Local Area Connection 4" Apple device internet and "Local Area Connection 3" network cable not connected.

      No wifi then.

Perhaps check in the BIOS if the wireless device is enabled?

At startup, look at the screen for the key to enter the BIOS, it's possibly F2

I don't really know where to look in the BIOS. I took a look and the Wireless device doesn't appear.

@Younglife, in case you can't find anything relevant, try resetting the BIOS to default settings, save the changes before exiting! (Hoping the Wi-Fi is enabled by default)

In the BIOS, after loading the default settings:
If the card does not appear in the device manager, it might very well be defective.
So, get a USB Wi-Fi key that will cost you much less than making a repair.

To complement kaneagle's suggestion, if you're comfortable with a screwdriver, you could possibly open the PC, disconnect the Wi-Fi card and remove it, then perform the reverse operation, just in case it’s a contact issue, you never know!

Indeed, I found nothing in the BIOS so I tried the default BIOS configuration and still no WIFI in the device manager.
I'll take my PC apart tonight and see what's going on with the hardware.
I'll let you know if that resolves my issue.

Thank you both for your help.

    FINALLY!

In three turns of a screwdriver, I realized that the WIFI card had come out of its slot, I clipped it back in and everything is working normally! Oh, if I had only known!

    I consider the problem resolved.
A huge thank you for your help and responsiveness.

Very well, but as kaneagle points out, not everyone knows how to use a screwdriver!
So good for you and best of luck.
      Best regards.

    Content for you.

in three turns of a screwdriver

It's great when you can fix it yourself, but that's not the case for everyone.

    Good evening.
