USB Key Recognized as Removable Drive Solved

Hello,

I know full well that there are plenty of forums on this subject, but I haven't found any clear answers.
I need my USB drive to be recognized as a USB drive and not as a removable disk in order to install Windows 10 on it.
Any solutions, please?

Hello,

You can't INSTALL Windows on a USB drive... The installed Windows on a PC must be on the internal disk of the PC...

Unless you are talking about the ISO file that's used for the installation?? But that's not the same thing.

Hi,

If you have the ISO, you need to place it on an empty USB stick using the software "Rufus" https://rufus.akeo.ie/?locale=fr_FR, it works every time.

What might cause you a problem is the PC's disk where you're installing it, which is not empty... this disk must be formatted beforehand; but during the installation, you will be given the option to "format the disk".

But this PC..?? What is it, what model, how old is it..?? It had a hard drive and Windows before... So explain a bit more and also what your final goal is.. because you were just talking about a USB stick at first, and now we're off on Windows..

It's very possible, because you booted your PC from the USB stick...

Your PC might be in USB1 at startup with the BIOS... it's only when Windows is running that Windows uses the drivers to switch to USB2 and it goes faster...

Let's add that your USB stick might be slow in addition to being USB1

The best solution remains the burned CD/DVD, it's much faster..

But everyone wants to use the USB stick... Too lazy to burn a CD... everyone has their choices..

I would add that Chrome is not the first thing to install... if you want spies and malicious software... you've fallen into it..

For me, your Windows is not clean.. Or the disk was not clean before the install..

I remind you that I can't install anything because of the file error except for Chrome, but I don't know why. So I can't install my antivirus. Anyway, it's bugging so much that I can't even get on Chrome.
I clicked on format before starting the installation; I did it even 3 or 4 times.
By the way, I restarted, and 1 hour and a half later it finally restarted and it says: critical error: the start menu and Cortana aren't working. We will try to fix the problem on your next login.

A "critical error" is either Windows or the disk

You could create another live USB stick with "Toutou Linux" on it https://linuxfr.org/news/toutou-linux-6-0-slaxen-rcx the goal would simply be to boot your PC from this USB stick to check that your PC works normally with another system... and that its electronics are OK.

It is not a question here of installing it on the hard drive... but only of running the PC... to listen to its heart..!

It is likely that your PC has nothing wrong with it... That’s why I suggested running it with a small Linux from a USB stick... that way it will operate differently than under Windows, and you’ll see if it’s slow or not..??

In my opinion, it shouldn't be done like this..

1° you need to download the ISO file of Toutou https://sourceforge.net/projects/toutoulinux/files/6.xx/SlaXen-6.0_RCX_NoPAE-2015-05-29.iso/download

2° you put it on your USB stick with RUFUS, I believe you already have it.
Your USB stick shouldn't contain anything else..

3° you need to make sure that your PC (BIOS) is properly configured to boot from your USB stick... but I think that's already the case since you successfully booted during your Windows installation..

An ISO file ends with ISO and not with SFS... so you don't have the right file... because Rufus works, that's undeniable. Problem solved, I found a DVD, I burned Windows 10 on it, I installed it, and there were no issues, and the computer has become super fast! It feels so good! I will avoid the USB stick from now on. Thanks for everything again!
