How to upgrade from Mac OS 10.6.8 to a higher version

I finally took the plunge. I installed the 2 RAM sticks, set up Sierra, and everything is working. I'm really happy. Thank you.

One last question. OS Sierra installed iCloud Drive and told me I needed to increase the storage by paying €0.99 per month, which I did. Is this storage really necessary since I don’t use the Mac outside of home, nor do I have an iPhone, etc...?
Can we cancel iCloud Drive please and also stop the €0.99 monthly payment? Thank you.

the installed RAM should be upgraded to 8 GB, if possible, because despite what Apple says, 4 GB is barely enough, the system will drag...

I am not a "pro" when it comes to computers. What should I buy in RAM memory to have 8 GB?
Furthermore, do I need to download OS X 10.7, then 10.8, etc., to get to the latest version? I don't think we can skip a version....

Dede has mostly replied, and I specify again, there's no need to go through the intermediate OS (OS X 10.7, 10.8, etc.), we can go directly to OS X 10.12 (Sierra), once the 8 GB of memory is installed.

P.S.: This Mac should be a mid-2010 21.5" iMac model, and it supports a total of 16 GB of RAM with 4 sticks of 4 GB. Then it will be top-notch, budget permitting.

so, I'll leave the 2 current RAM sticks in place and add a 4 Go one in a free slot. Will that be enough? If not, I can install 2 4 Go sticks in 2 free slots!! I prefer to invest in RAM than buy a new iMac.

before buying a new printer, test the one you have. My Canon MP 810 is listed as incompatible with Sierra, but I use it without any problem with the drivers designed for Mac OS X 10.6... so the solution is probably to download the latest Mac driver available and test

I read that you must first install OSX EI CAPITAN before OSX SIERRA since I am using version 10.6;

As soon as you have an iCloud account, you get 5GB for free on iCloud Drive. No need to pay for a subscription if you don’t use it or use it very little.

I myself have this space of 5GB for free, and it is more than enough for me since I don’t back up anything on this Drive. I sometimes save or store files there to be able to find them on my devices, but in a very limited way.

Sometimes you receive a message from Apple saying that the available space is nearly full. This is a bug.

To manage this space, just go to System Preferences / iCloud / Manage... you can also completely disable it.

Finally, from a Finder window, you can also check its contents

and last but not least, you can also log into your iCloud account from Safari to see what is stored on iCloud Drive

In short, unless there is a real need, the free capacity of 5GB is more than sufficient for a "standard" user.

I have never increased this space, despite receiving messages saying my storage is full, whether on the Mac, iPhone, or iPad. These messages are erroneous in the majority of cases.
