Hello,
I have a Mac from 2011 running OS X 10.6.8 and with 4 GB of memory.
I would like to upgrade to a higher version, 10.8 or even more. How can I proceed?

Good evening,
First of all, you need to provide your exact configuration; to find it, use this little picture tutorial
and come copy the requested information, you will know everything.
No, there’s no obligation to go through all the OS versions released since 10.6 to upgrade to the latest OS, if supported.
When it’s urgent, it’s already too late (Talleyrand)
When all else fails, read the manual ;)

Good evening Dede, I just came across this discussion while looking for how to update the OS of my iMac (I think it's from 2011) with the following configuration:
Mac OS X Version 10.6.8
Processor: 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory: 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Boot Drive: Macintosh HD
Furthermore, if possible, I would like to replace the current mechanical hard drive with an SSD.
Thank you in advance for your responses
Best regards
Hello,
All iMacs from 2011, if that's indeed the case with yours, can run Mac OS X 10.13.6.
4 GB of memory is just enough; you should at least double the capacity, adding/replacing is easy.

To install a higher OS, haven't you tried going through the Apple menu/software update? (or App Store, updates)
If you can't do it this way, let me know.
Best regards
