Optical Mouse Remains On While PC Is Shut Down

On the motherboard, there should be a jumper setting called something like: PS2_USB_PWR1 (at least on mine). It’s a 3-pin connector. For example, if you short pins 1 and 2, the 5V from the USB ports is cut off when the PC is turned off. If pins 2 and 3 are shorted, 5V is present permanently (+5VSB: the standby 5V), which allows PS/2 or USB peripherals to wake up the system. Of course, if the 5V is always present, the optical mouse remains powered and its LED stays on.
So check the jumper settings on the motherboard.

I had the same issue. My USB ports as well as the PS/2 ports stayed on all the time even after I turned off the computer.
In the BIOS, under power settings, I set EuP Ready to [enabled] and that resolved my problem.

SOLUTION: To all those who have this problem, it can be resolved at the motherboard level. You need to check the user manual for your motherboard (provided at home or online) for "jumpers".
By reversing the jumper, which, if you're experiencing the problem is set to +5V SB (StandBy = on), and moving it to +5V (Default), as explained by other members here.

This resolved my issue. Here is the explanation for reversing the jumper(s) related to this issue in the user manual for my motherboard (an ASUS M2N68 AM PLUS), to illustrate the solution with my case:

My mouse is a wired optical one and it has a nice light (blue, red, or green depending on the mode) and it doesn't turn off when I shut down the PC. Solution: unplug the USB port. Simple and effective.

You need to look for a manual power button on the back of your computer unit, turn it off and that's it.
But when you want to turn your computer on again, you need to click the same button.

I just looked at your motherboard's documentation, the jumper is indeed named as I told you and it is located at the top left of the board (above and to the left of the CPU).

My motherboard doesn't have either a jumper or BIOS settings to fix this issue, so I circumvented the problem by buying a PCI card with 4 USB ports. When the PC is off, there is no power to these 4 ports. So I plugged everything I want to turn off at the same time as the PC.

In any case, it works for me, and for €10.

You are absolutely right, and it's general, just like some people install battery-operated stuff with radio connections for weather stations or alarm systems which are actually refused by insurance companies.
Plus, for the mouse, a wireless one can get lost, not with a wire.

My mouse doesn't turn off immediately when I shut down the PC either, but when I come back, hours later, it is off, but it's a very low power and whether it's off or not, what difference does it make? You have to let the mouse live the way it wants, as long as it doesn't disappear, hence the wire.
