Optical Mouse Remains On While PC Is Shut Down

Question

Hello, how can I make my optical mouse turn off when the PC is shut down because it lights up at night... I'm currently putting something on it, but how can I do it through settings so that my mouse stops being illuminated when the PC is off...

For your information, here is my motherboard: K7S41GX socket A

Hello everyone,

the issue with the USB mouse that stays on is actually due to the power supply from the USB ports.
There is a jumper to move on the motherboard to stop the power supply (see motherboard manual).
This happened to me on my PC, Asrock P4i65gv motherboard.

I had the same problem as you with a wired optical mouse (Microsoft Notebook Optical Mouse 3000), but I changed my computer; the issue comes from the USB ports on your PC. The only reason is that the port or the ports have a short circuit or are in bad condition. Well, that dates back two years, and in my opinion, you must have found the problem.
But I'll tell you what I had: I would turn off my PC, and my mouse would stay on by itself, but when unplugging the mouse and plugging it back in, it would turn off normally. However, when I tried it on another computer, it worked fine. Otherwise, you need to reinstall it with the CD.

But I tell all of you: It's better to buy a wired mouse than a wireless one because the batteries run out quickly, and it's garbage.

My mouse is a wired optical one and it has a nice light (blue, red, or green depending on the mode) and it doesn't turn off when I shut down the PC. Solution: unplug the USB port. Simple and effective.

First of all, know that a budget mouse, as you can see, is very limited in its functions.
Here's what happens to you: your mouse doesn't recognize the computer when it's off (normal since it's not brand-name). So, like most PCs, there is always some power in the circuits (even when off) which keeps the orange LED lit, for example, or lets you know when you press the ON button, etc.
And since you have a low-end mouse, it will also remain in standby as long as it has power.
So, one of two things: either you don't turn off your PC and you're actually putting it into hibernation
or simply turn off the power supply at the back and you'll see that you'll have nothing!

Hello, I have the same problem. I think the only solution is to turn off your PC from the back.
You need to look for a manual power button on the back of your computer unit, turn it off and that's it.

On the motherboard, there should be a jumper setting called something like: PS2_USB_PWR1 (at least on mine). It’s a 3-pin connector. For example, if you short pins 1 and 2, the 5V from the USB ports is cut off when the PC is turned off. If pins 2 and 3 are shorted, 5V is present permanently (+5VSB: the standby 5V), which allows PS/2 or USB peripherals to wake up the system. Of course, if the 5V is always present, the optical mouse remains powered and its LED stays on.
So check the jumper settings on the motherboard.

My motherboard doesn't have either a jumper or BIOS settings to fix this issue, so I circumvented the problem by buying a PCI card with 4 USB ports. When the PC is off, there is no power to these 4 ports. So I plugged everything I want to turn off at the same time as the PC.

In any case, it works for me, and for €10.

I had the same issue. My USB ports as well as the PS/2 ports stayed on all the time even after I turned off the computer.
In the BIOS, under power settings, I set EuP Ready to [enabled] and that resolved my problem.

For the issue of the mouse LED staying on

SOLUTION: To all those who have this problem, it can be resolved at the motherboard level. You need to check the user manual for your motherboard (provided at home or online) for "jumpers".
By reversing the jumper, which, if you're experiencing the problem is set to +5V SB (StandBy = on), and moving it to +5V (Default), as explained by other members here.

This resolved my issue. Here is the explanation for reversing the jumper(s) related to this issue in the user manual for my motherboard (an ASUS M2N68 AM PLUS), to illustrate the solution with my case:
