Unable to use my WD ELEMENTS hard drive on my Mac OSX

Hello everyone, I am writing this message in despair. I recently purchased a MacBook Air and I must admit that I spend a lot of time on forums searching for solutions to everything because using a Mac is not easy. So, Santa Claus gave me a 2TB WD Elements external hard drive. I plan to use it mainly for storing photos because we always tend to lose them, and since we're constantly taking pictures of everything and anything with our smartphones, at least I can transfer them to the hard drive and organize them neatly. Anyway, I plugged in my hard drive, and my Mac recognizes it without any problem; I can see the icon appearing on my desktop, but I can't put anything in it. So, I've checked about 8000 different forums plus the Apple and WD pages, and I don't understand anything. On WD's site, there are explanations, but not for Mac OSX Sierra. Is there anyone who can save me by explaining the simplest procedure possible? Thank you in advance for your time and help. I'm crossing my fingers...

Welcome to the forum, @Emiliejuaniko! Hello, @dede74000 :) In fact, the article referred to by @dede74000 says it all :) Apparently, it concerns the format of the hard drive. PCs and MACs handle drive formats differently. There are native formats for Windows (NTFS, for example) and native formats for MAC (HFS, for example). The format of a drive serves as an intermediary in the communication that an OS establishes with a drive. Windows has difficulty speaking the MAC language (format) and vice versa; MAC OS only partially understands the Windows language (format). This explains the behavior you’re observing: WD Elements comes formatted in NTFS for Windows and requires reformatting for MAC OS. For this reason, MAC OS detects it but cannot communicate with it before formatting. @Emiliejuaniko, the article that @dede74000 posted considers some usage hypotheses, and I advise you to carefully select the new format of the hard drive – this will depend on the intended use (MAC OS only, Windows only, or MAC OS + Windows). Once the hard drive is reformatted (some instructions here http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=nJhskp ) and operational under MAC OS, don't forget to establish a good backup strategy while keeping backup copies of your essential data on various storage media. Backup strategies are an integral part of the storage process, regardless of the model, brand, or capacity of the chosen media. It’s better not to put all your eggs in one basket. Good evening, I’m giving up, I can’t get this hard drive to work. I’ve read and reread pages of instructions, but nothing. It's already not easy to work on a Mac. It's a truly exceptional computer, but when we take our first steps, we’re really lost. I think I'm going to call a technician, I’ll keep you posted... Anyway, thank you very much for your help.
