Unable to use my WD ELEMENTS hard drive on my Mac OSX

Hello everyone,

I am writing this message in despair. I recently purchased a MacBook Air and I must admit that I spend a lot of time on forums searching for solutions to everything because using a Mac is not easy.

So, Santa Claus gave me a 2TB WD Elements external hard drive. I plan to use it mainly for storing photos because we always tend to lose them, and since we're constantly taking pictures of everything and anything with our smartphones, at least I can transfer them to the hard drive and organize them neatly.

Anyway, I plugged in my hard drive, and my Mac recognizes it without any problem; I can see the icon appearing on my desktop, but I can't put anything in it. So, I've checked about 8000 different forums plus the Apple and WD pages, and I don't understand anything. On WD's site, there are explanations, but not for Mac OSX Sierra.

Is there anyone who can save me by explaining the simplest procedure possible?

Thank you in advance for your time and help. I'm crossing my fingers...
