Water cooling: Radiator not warm

Solved

Hello, I currently have a small problem with my water cooling.

Indeed, the pump is on (there is a small diode inside), but my processor is heating up quite a bit.

After some checks, I noticed that the radiator of the kit isn’t dissipating anything since it isn’t warm.

Any ideas on the origin of the problem?

Thanks!

Configuration: Windows / Chrome 54.0.2840.99

    Hello,

From what you describe, I think there’s a bad mounting of the water block on the CPU, with a pocket of air preventing heat from escaping

Without any other information about your hardware (watercooling kit, CPU, motherboard, …), it’s hard to say more to you

      My config:
      i5 6600k
GTX 980 TI (Asus STRIX DCU III)
      Msi Z170A Gaming M3
      Enermax Liqmax II 120S

      The problem appeared overnight

does that imply everything was fine before?
how long did it work for?

can you indicate the current CPU temperature?
do you remember what it was before?

So, yes, everything was good before. I never paid close attention to temperatures, but the fan hardly ever spun at full speed like it does now.

The current temperature (it's dropped since this morning) reads 84° in game, 98 at peak (Wow on a WQHD, 3 monitors connected, Chrome on a second screen) and 50-55° idle

This Enermax system says that the LED brightness depends on the pump power. Could it be that the connector where the pump was plugged has failed and that it’s because I plugged it into my motherboard, which wouldn’t provide enough power to the pump, that’s the cause?

It could be that the connector where the pump was plugged in gave out, and that it’s because I plugged it into my motherboard. And you thought it wasn’t important information? If you don’t provide all the info, we can’t help you properly! What happened? Where was the pump plugged in, and where did you plug it in afterward? According to the manufacturer’s documentation, the pump must be plugged into a 3-pin connector with 12V permanent power. If you plugged it into a 3-pin connector controlled by the BIOS, it’s not surprising that the pump isn’t working properly...

Well, I would have known it was the possible cause of the problem. I didn't really think about the power supply for the pump. I tested plugging it into the motherboard as a last resort (before the problem and after, it was plugged directly to the power via an adapter), after your last message. I had this idea right after the plug-in, about 1h30 ago. So, since it wasn’t working, I reconnected it to another MOLEX, and since then it seems to be working. Is it normal for a MOLEX to fail all of a sudden like that? Because that’s apparently what happened, overnight.

      well, problem solved :)

That a MOLEX connector fails all of a sudden, is that normal?
no, but I don't know your power supply...

well, it's not normal, I don't know what to tell you...
was the connector properly plugged in?
      maybe some oxidation?

Could it be due to dust in the radiator (there really is some, but really just a little ^^)?

no, the radiator would be hot if everything was working normally
it would be very hot if the dusts prevented heat from escaping

if the radiator is lukewarm or cold as you indicate, that means heat transfer from the CPU to the radiator is not happening

      it could be:
      poor contact of the waterblock
      defective pump
      evaporation of the liquid
      ...

The current temp shows 84° in-game, 98° peak.
    That's way too high indeed.

Check the water block mounting; it may have shifted, a mounting leg might be loose...

Are you sure the pump is working? LED on is OK, but do you feel any vibrations?

Can you check the liquid level in the circuit?

PS: but the fan hardly ever ran at full speed before, like now.
Is the fan running at full speed continuously?

So the setup is okay, I took it apart/reassembled it twice.

The pump is working, I tried to only connect that, I can hear the noise well.
I can't see the liquid level.

The fan is spinning at full speed, yes, starting at 85°.

The radiator fan is running at full speed because it’s controlled by the sensor at the CPU level. Is the radiator warm or cold?

Cold. however the pipe that brings the liquid from the CPU to the radiator is very hot when the CPU is very hot. The transport is fine, it is at the radiator that it freezes...

for me that means the fluid is not circulating
how long have you had this Enermax water cooling?
