Hello,
I don't know if I'm in the right section...
So, my brother's laptop screen is broken; we can only see a tiny corner of the screen, which is really a hassle. Otherwise, the rest is not damaged.
So, before replacing it, he wants to recover his data.
Looking around online, I understood that you can connect the laptop to another computer to recover the data (we have a living room computer with a monitor).
However, I'm not very tech-savvy (and I wouldn't want to mess things up), what cable exactly should I get and where should I plug it in on the laptop?
Or is that not at all what I should do... if that's the case, could you explain the procedure to me (um… with not too complicated terms, please lol)?
Thank you.

1: connect the PC to the TV or an external monitor via VGA or HDMI...
copy the data to an external hard drive or removable storage device
or
2: as indicated above: open the hatch under the PC, remove the hard drive and mount it in an external enclosure
