Image resizing... while maintaining aspect ratio!? Solved

Hello everyone!

I just searched through various posts about resizing images and couldn't find what I was looking for. Or maybe I just went about it the wrong way or misread (which is possible!).

I'm new to Illustrator and I enjoy discovering new programs. The thing is, it's quite complex, very...
What I'd like to know, first of all:

Could you help me with resizing an image?
I'd like to change the length of an image, and have the height automatically adjust.

Let me explain:
- I have an image that is 100x100 (a nice square)
- I change the dimension to 200 instead of 100
- I would like the image to be 200x200, not 200x100. I want the height/length ratio to be the same, so I have a nice square image rather than a rectangle. Imagine the result...

What is the option, if it exists, to make this happen???

There is "transform" at the top right, but it doesn't change the data mentioned above at all...

Hello Johnssen

In Illustrator, as in other software, you only need to select your square and resize it using the handles while holding down the Shift key; the resizing will be proportional
It will be easier if you have activated the smart guides, which will show you the values live

You can also enter the values in the Transform panel; the resizing will be whatever you decide, and thus proportional if your values are

That said, there is also a handy scaling tool in Illy

Hello,

You can try to do it with Paint.
When you have opened the photo with Paint, click on resize, and then choose whether you want to resize by percentage or by pixel.
And just below, you have a box to keep the proportions or not.

Well, I have an image.
I enlarge it manually.
Since it is not proportional (thank you for this new word ^^), I set it to 100%, validate, and then, well, the image didn't resize.
I know there is a small table that allows doing this quickly, but the person is not reachable to ask them how to proceed.
So, the result is not pretty and is deformed :(

Well, I have an image... I set it to 100%, valid, and there, well, the image did not resize.  It's certain, if you set it to 100%, you can't have any change!  100% represents the dimensions of your image in its current state you must enter a lower or higher percentage to resize.

no worries, no one is exempt from technical troubles :)

if I enlarge the image in height, it doesn't resize correctly in length. This results in a distorted image.

I think I've found my answer.
Once we have the shape, or the image, to make it 'homothetic', you need to hold down the SHIFT key and enlarge or shrink the image to keep it uniform :-)

Thanks to you anyway, and if you know any tutorials or websites to learn to better manage Photoshop/Illustrator, I’m open to learning :-)
