Hello everyone,
We are hesitating between buying a PS4 or an Xbox One. All the features are very similar, the games we are interested in are available on both consoles, so we are leaning towards the PS4, mainly out of habit.
But I’ve been warned about the PS network: a subscription is required to play online (and it’s the same for Xbox). We don’t play online, and we don’t plan to start, even though we have games that support that mode. So I thought there wouldn’t be any issues: we play solo, we don’t pay for PS+, and that’s settled. Except I was told that there are games for which even in solo mode, it is impossible to play without the subscription!!
Is this true? Which game(s) if so? And is it the same for Xbox?
Thank you for reading, and thanks in advance for your response!

Hello again!
I'm sorry, I have one last question, somewhat related to the original topic.
Do you know if PS+ is required to play the upcoming Final Fantasy XV?
Because basically, it's a bit of my main (if not only) motivation to buy the PS4 ^^' and I wouldn't want to have any surprises after the purchase.
Thanks in advance! -
Hello,
It’s not... really “true” :-)
In reality, PS+ only serves for multiplayer and advanced features (like cloud saving, etc).
The solo mode is completely accessible without a subscription; however, there are certain games (like Destiny, for example) where it may be necessary to buy the DLCs in order to progress beyond the "base" story of the original version. Even though now, the game is sometimes sold with the DLCs included, so the purchase is no longer required "online" like it was for the first edition.
Some features of the "solo" mode can sometimes be limited because they require online functionalities, like multiplayer, such as in "The Division," but this is still quite rare and very limited.
However, a PS+ subscription is not that expensive anymore when taken annually and often provides access to interesting benefits nonetheless.

Thank you for this very complete and quick response! :-)
Does it indicate on the games that DLCs must be downloaded with PS+ or is a PS+ subscription more suggested for progression?
If that's the case, at least we know before buying, and we can purchase or not with full knowledge of the facts.
(My God, when I think that 10 years ago I was an expert on consoles and video games....!! ^^')-
No, because generally games can be completed without the DLC; the "DLC" only adds an additional or parallel story, or extra content for multiplayer or other aspects, it depends on the games. :-)
Never indicated that they have to be purchased separately, because sometimes games do not have any planned DLC... and eventually, they are released.
On the other hand, games that require a "PS+" account clearly state that.

Well great! Thank you very much for this information!
We will look at the games that interest us the most and ultimately decide whether or not to buy the console :-)
Have a nice evening!
