Hello everyone,
I have a question about extracting audio from a YouTube video using aTube Catcher:
Different output formats are offered, and since the audio format on YouTube is mp3, I choose the mp3 format to retrieve it.
However, by doing this, am I not creating an mp3 from an mp3? So, am I recompressing a compressed sound? Shouldn't I choose FLAC to retrieve the mp3 without it being recompressed?
(Of course, I know that choosing FLAC as an audio output format doesn't create a FLAC audio file since the source is mp3, but would it avoid compressing it again between the source and the output?)
Thank you for your insight on this question :)

Hi, if it's for sound quality, video captures should be avoided.
As for Flac or MP3, they are comparable; it's just that MP3 is more popular on multimedia players.

Thank you for your response even though it doesn't answer my question.
Are FLAC and MP3 equivalent? Sorry, but I use both formats and they sound totally different!
Any online search will tell you:
FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) is lossless and is more like a ZIP file. In theory, FLAC files sound like the originals once decompressed.
MP3 is a lossy format, which means that some parts of the music are cut out to reduce file size. Generally, it's the cymbals, guitars, and reverb effects that are most affected by MP3 compression.
In short, I disagree with you on that.
And regarding the rest, is video capture to be banned? Extracting audio from a YouTube video gives you audio in MP3 format like any MP3 file downloaded...
Unless you mean that MP3 is to be banned for you, but then that's a different story.
Thanks again for your participation!
