Unable to set default printer Solved

Question

Hello,  Today, as I want to print a pdf file, my computer is asking me to save my file in ".oxps" format. I'm beginning to have questions, especially since my file still does not print (nothing happens despite several attempts).  I then realize that my printer has been replaced by a certain "Microsoft XPS Document Writer" that has appeared out of nowhere! So I uninstall this little troublemaker.  Problem: Now I can’t print anything because I no longer have a default printer, and when I right-click on my printer in the control panel, I no longer have the "set as default" option! Naturally, I looked for a solution online and found this one: http://h30478.www3.hp.com/t5/Printers-and-all-in-one-printers-Getting-started/Unable-to-set-default-printer/td-p/285922  I followed all the instructions and then restarted the computer. My printer is finally listed in this so-called "Windows" (it wasn't before), but the problem remains the same: I cannot set my Lexmark as default in the control panel. I tried again a second time just to be sure, but nothing has changed. Hello and thank you again for your response!  The printer itself works very well (I had it print test pages), but I can't ask it anything from the computer since there is no default printer set on it. For example, Microsoft Word tells me "Unable to print: printer configuration problem" and the help indicates that this could be because there is no default printer designated. I want to point out that I do select my Lexmark when requesting to print. Evidence in images: Print request: http://hpics.li/f62c78e Refusal window: http://hpics.li/d4ff017  The Windows Photo Viewer does not want to print photos because "no printer is installed or a required Windows service is not enabled," but I have checked and the Print Spooler and Lxce_Device (the two services I need) are both activated, no problem.  Photofiltre also refuses to print because "No default printer selected." In short, you get the picture.  But the printer is indeed recognized by the computer, it is displayed in "Devices and Printers" as being connected, it is also present in "PC Settings / PC and Devices / Devices," I can select it in Word, etc. The proof is that, curiously, I have no problem requesting to scan a file from the computer. It receives the information, scans, and I can save the scanned file without any issues.  Interesting thing: when I turned on my computer this evening and took a look at Regedit, I noticed that my Lexmark had disappeared again! Only this remained (just like the first time I opened it): http://hpics.li/49c9ccc So I repeated the operation as before: I removed "UserSelectedDefault," restarted, noticed that my Lexmark was back, set a "1" as the value... But the problem persists, I still cannot set it as default and therefore cannot print anything.

Hello, Thank you very much for this response! Unfortunately, despite this, the problem persists. I do notice, however, that it says "driver unavailable", so I presume that the problem might also come from there... However, I believe I'm not done with my surprises yet! Already, Driver Booster 3.5 does not seem to see any driver issues with my printer. So, I go directly to the Lexmark website (http://support.lexmark.com/index?page=driversdownloads&userlocale=FR_FR&locale=FR) and search for the most recent thing I can find for my printer, which seems to be "Complete drivers and software for setting up, configuring, and using your device with Windows 64-bit" (cjs4300FR.exe) released in 2010 for Windows Vista 64 bits. Okay, I'm on Windows 8.1, but we'll have to deal with it... No choice, apparently. When I run it, it tells me that I need to uninstall what is already present on my PC first. I click on "Uninstall" in this window, and... I get a lovely little white window with nothing written on it. And of course, it doesn't uninstall anything. So I go to "Add or Remove Programs" to uninstall from there... Little white window! I then go to "Revo Uninstaller"... Lexmark isn't even among the programs in its list. After some research online, I decide to go into the registry to copy the "value data" from its "UninstallString" file to run it manually in the "Run" program. Except that when I try, a window appears telling me to log in as an administrator. So I search for the file manually, run it as administrator... And guess what: back to the little white window! Proof with an image if needed: http://hpics.li/13186b3 I don't know what to do anymore... I notice along the way something that seems a bit strange at the end of these so-called "value data": "C:\windows\system32\spool\DRIVERS\x64\3\lxceUNST.EXE -NOLICENSE" But why "No license"? Is that normal? I bought my printer about 9 years ago and installed it with its original disk on my new PC last year, so I don't see why it wouldn't have a license. That being said, I struggled to install it, so maybe it didn't install as it should have... I don't know. I'm a bit (a lot) lost! Thank you in advance for your help, and I apologize for this lengthy message!

I tried and there it is, it's finally set as "default"! Thank you for advising me to do it. However, now a new problem arises: when I want to print, a window indicates that "the detected port is incorrect". What should I do?

I've just realized that my Lexmark is showing up under "Other devices." Give the hardware ID of the printer Right-click on the device Properties Details tab Select the hardware ID. It is a number that should look like this as an example: --> PCI\VEN_1969&DEV_1026&SUBSYS....... USB\.....
