Hello,
my computer is running Windows 10. Previously, I used to press F8 to restore factory settings, but now that doesn't work. So I went into the settings and did the "recovery" from Windows 10.
I started this in the evening, and by the next morning it was still at 2%. So I forcefully shut it down in an attempt to restart, but it got stuck on a black screen....
I found an old Vista disk and thought it wouldn't change much, but actually, nothing is compatible. I now have no internet or USB port, so I can't update drivers from my hard drive or retrieve them online.
However, I saw while installing Vista that a recovery partition still exists on the disk.
Is there any way to restore factory settings using a method I'm unaware of, or can I create a reinstall disk using Windows from another computer?
Thank you in advance,
Nikita

Hello!
Go into the BIOS. I think you know how to do that.
Disable all options like "Fast Boot" and the like, and change the Secure Boot mode to Legacy or "Launch CSM".
From there, after applying the changes and reconnecting the original hard drive, you should be able to boot into recovery mode with F8.
The 3 biggest lies of developers: 1. The documentation? We'll do it later... 2. The program has been tested and contains no bugs... 3. The technical specifications are complete...

Hello
if you formatted your HDD to install Vista, you can't go back to factory settings.
you can reinstall W10 on it
https://www.microsoft.com/fr-fr/software-download/windows10ISO/
or the original Windows!
can you do a diskpart to see the partitions of your HDD?
you will find everything you need here, the commands, the ISOs, etc.

good luck
"alias uncle sebastien, no longer provide W8 ISOs on CCM ^^"

Hello,
A classmate managed to reinstall Windows 7 but he didn't have time to continue the adventure and had to leave me with a 0x0000007B error, a partition error I believe. I tried changing the AHCI to ATA as it's mentioned everywhere but it didn't change anything.
I will try reinstalling Windows 7 again.
Otherwise, I can see the partitions during installation; he deleted the recovery partition, and I have a small system partition and a large Windows partition left.
As for Lucky, it's an XPS L502X.
I will check "ikewdu."
Thank you!

Oh well, if he also deleted the recovery partition, there's nothing left to do except a complete reinstallation. I needed the PC model, precisely to know the factory reset procedure... which relies on the recovery partition. That's a shame.
From memory, error 7B is a device error... I'll take a look *checkGoogle
Apparently, it's indeed the SATA controller that's at fault. Yes, the one on the motherboard.
Continue your investigations in the BIOS, there should be a functional configuration ;-)
Have you done a BIOS reset?

If you have other ideas, I am all ears.
Thanks again

Otherwise, you can always try installing Seven (the Seven drivers should be compatible). To retrieve the drivers, you need to go to Dell's website.
The .iso of Seven is available on Microsoft's website... too lazy to go look for it.
I tried the repair disk from another computer, but it says there is no previous image to restore.
Dell tells me that the computer is no longer under warranty, so if I have a problem, I just have to figure it out myself: "The product is out of warranty and may be subject to the following support options:
Resolve the problem yourself."
With the recovery disk, F8 offers a big menu with safe mode, enable boot logging, debugging mode, etc.
With the restoration tool, it also asks for a previous image, but since the computer has been formatted, there is nothing left...
Thanks anyway for looking into the issue.
