Why is there an "empty disk" message on my FM transmitter?

Hello,
I just bought an FM Transmitter, 854, I think from Norauto, and the problem is that it says "empty disk". I can find a frequency to tune to, but even if I plug in my iPod connection or USB stick, it doesn't work, the music doesn't start playing?
Can you help me?

    Could you try with a small basic USB key formatted FAT32?

    Do you have a memory card reader on this transmitter?

      Thank you for your reply. I tried with a memory card and the jack, and the music did start, whereas the USB port certainly doesn’t work because I tried with a USB drive and got no result. I think I should format the drive as you advised and/or have a cable that plugs into it for our device.
