Hello,

I have retrieved 2 Works files (*.wks and *.wdb). I am looking for software to either open them or convert them to another format.
I have Excel, Word, Access but I do not have Works.
Thank you.

Hello,
You can open your Works files with Word (by changing the file type, you have the Works files)

Otherwise, if it's a spreadsheet, it is possible to convert them with this tool: https://www.rl-conversion.com/converter/wks-wdb-to-excel.htm

Thank you for your suggestions, unfortunately it doesn't work because these are "spreadsheet" files and "database" files.
Do you have another solution?
Thank you

Hi, Word should do that if you have installed the right components, otherwise you'll need to install them...
Try it and see...

Hello,
I have several files on a floppy disk with the .wks and .wps extensions that I urgently need. I changed computers since saving these disks. And with Windows XP and Open Office 2, I can't open them. For the .wps files, I can open some of them with "HTML document," but not the .wks (spreadsheets). Can you help me?
Thank you
PS: I'm not very good with computers!!!

Hello,

I have an old file (.wdb) created in WORKS 2.0 (MS DOS) that I absolutely need to use on Windows XP. Until now, I used it on Windows 98 without any problem; but since I changed my PC (and therefore my operating system --> XP), when I want to open the .wdb file, a message ("insufficient memory") appears.
What do you advise me to do???

Thank you in advance

Yves

I have the same problem "insufficient memory" without having changed computers. It's an XP on which Works was installed, and it was working perfectly until now. Now the spreadsheet seems to have a problem. Did you solve your issue and how?

Hello,

I have a problem similar to Yves's (concerning an old .wdb file).

I am doing genealogical research and the information tables (names, dates, records) are all saved in .WDB format.

With an old PC running Windows 98, I could open my WDB files without any problem.

Now, with WINDOWS XP and Office 2003, nothing works, I even tried to open it with EXCEL and ACCESS since the WDB file is a data file = the message received is "FILE FORMAT XXX.wdb: NOT VALID".

I also have OPEN OFFICE but it doesn't want to open it either.

Can we find a demo software for Works?

What should I do?

You can try with OpenOffice.org, I think they do that, it's free :o)

To solve the insufficient memory issue, you need to disable the video driver for mirrorLandeskmanagement in the system properties. You need to remove it.

You cannot convert a works file to PDF.

However, you can create PDF files from the data in your database and/or your reports.

Download pdfcreator HERE https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/bureautique/17257-pdfcreator/

Hello,
please, I have a faulty Windows 98 file "user.exe" and I want to replace it with another one, but I don't have a floppy disk or CD to do it. How can I?
If you have an answer, please send it to me and thank you in advance.

Hello, to open these two files you need to download Microsoft Works SE. It’s a good software that does all kinds of CVs, cover letters, projects... a lot.

Yeah, very good, but no one can open the files created in Works.

You can open a file with the .wks extension using a spreadsheet program like Excel by specifying the type of file you want to open in Excel, for example by clicking on open and selecting the type of file from the drop-down menu of file types. To open a file with the .wps extension, a word processing software like Word is preferable; the procedure is the same. The same goes for a file with the .wdb extension, but you will need a database software. Remember that Works is the ancestor of Office. In summary: .wks > spreadsheet (Excel), .wps > word processing (Word), .wdb > database (Access)

Hello Regentil,

Sorry, but I have already tried this procedure and it doesn't work with Office 97 which includes Access.
Has anyone tried it with Office 2007?
