Help: my D5300 screen is all black

Hello,
I recently bought a Nikon d5300 and after a few months turning it on, the screen stayed black with no display. I planned to take it to the store, but just before I left the battery ran out and the camera restarted.
Yesterday it did the exact same thing!!!! Still black. I noted that during both incidents the battery had been used until depletion.
