Error "The end tag name of the element..."

Good evening, I have a big problem, I spent the evening trying different solutions but nothing works...

I wanted to open a document (Word 2007) that usually poses no problem, but tonight I can't open it! It tells me "The end tag name of the element must match the type of the start tag of the element."

I can't look for a previous backup.
The "open and repair" function doesn't work.
I managed to recover only the first page (out of about ten) by changing the extension to zip and repairing the archive.
I believe I can open the original file with WordPad, but it's completely unreadable.

This document was created from a "Word template."

If anyone has ideas on how to recover the entire file, I would be grateful, as it's very important to me.....

    Hello,

    It's a XML tag issue.
    You indeed need to rename the extension to zip, extract the document.xml, open it with an application like NotePad++ and hunt for the unclosed tags.
    Of course, you need to know a minimum about XML.

    The problem is that I cannot extract document.xml! It says: "CRC failure in word\document.xml. The file is corrupted"...

      So, there... if you can't extract the document.xml, unfortunately, your file is not recoverable!
      Very often, this is due to a USB stick being improperly removed.

    It's definitely possible, the drive on which the file was saved has already caused some issues...
    Of course, I had made backups on another drive, but from the faulty file! I hadn't thought to check the file before replacing the backups...

      You should never use USB drives for anything other than secondary backups. It's really important to keep the original file on the hard drive, or possibly in the cloud, definitely not on a USB drive, it's too fragile.
