WD Elements hard drive not recognized on MAC

Solved

Hello,

I just bought a 2TB hard drive from the brand WD Element. After formatting it to work with Mac, I did a long backup, and the hard drive was functioning. But since then, I've been trying to reconnect it to my Mac; the light is blinking, but the hard drive doesn't show up anywhere...
Is there a place I can look for it? Or does this mean it's not working anymore (even though I've had it for about 2 weeks)?
Is there a solution to recover the content without losing everything?

Thank you for your valuable advice,
Fleur

Configuration: Mac OS X (10.10) / Firefox 38.0

Best wishes for this new year, Fleur :)

I suggest we explore some possible avenues together :)

Let's get our hands dirty:

1/ The connectivity: if you're using a hub, don't hesitate to connect the external hard drive directly to a USB port on your MAC (the one at the back of the computer would be preferable). Consider trying a different compatible USB cable or other USB ports as well.

Additionally, the backup you made, is it a Time Machine backup? Could you please clarify the procedure you followed, thanks :)

2/ What information does Disk Utility provide regarding this external hard drive (format, etc.)? A screenshot here would be appreciated :)

3/ Check the System Information on the MAC: this section indicates if the external hard drive is physically detected by the MAC. The path to follow is: Apple (in the top left corner) > About This Mac > More Info > System Information > USB (on the left under the Hardware category). If the external hard drive does not appear there, try connecting it to another MAC to determine where the problem lies.

Your message indicates that the external hard drive has been recognized by your MAC. If you have multiple external hard drives connected to the computer, feel free to test by disconnecting them (using the Eject option before unplugging) and only reconnect the troublesome hard drive :)

How does your hard drive behave when connected to another MAC? What format did you assign to this hard drive?

I will keep an eye on this topic... please let me know the outcome, thanks :)
Cheers

Hi!
I have the same issue. The same hard drive was recognized last night and not today. I unplugged it while starting up the computer (((
Today it shows up in "System Information", but not in the Finder.
It is formatted ExFAT
Any idea to help me?
See you!
