Hello everyone,
It's been a long time since this topic was opened. I have encountered the same problems with Windows XP SP3. I bought the VX-3000 (Lifecam) but couldn't get it to work; the microphone wasn't functioning, but the video worked perfectly. I should mention that I had the same issue with a Logitech webcam product. I thought it was the webcams, but the solution is actually simpler.
I've been working on the problem for a week, and I've finally understood that it could be due to three cases:
either a conflict issue
or a driver issue
or an incompatibility issue under XP SP1, SP2, or SP3.
So after elimination, here’s the solution I applied to solve my problem... HOWEVER, EVERY SOLVED PROBLEM CAN LEAD TO ANOTHER. I solved the sound issue, but that created another issue that we will see later.
Here’s my solution:
Make sure to uninstall the drivers for the Lifecam VX-3000 before any resolutions. Then, update your operating system. For example, if you're using Windows XP SP2, upgrade to SP3. Indeed, in my case, when I started my cam, I received a message (window) saying to insert the Windows XP Service Pack 3 CD. I didn't understand because I had SP3 and had automatically updated from SP2 to SP3. Windows Update offered me this update. After some thought, and since I didn’t have the SP3 installation CD, I downloaded SP3 and reinstalled it over my current installation. It actually proposed an update, which I completed... and lo and behold, the missing drivers were installed; I checked in C:\Windows\System32\drivers and the missing drivers in my case were usbaudio.sys and ksuser.sys, so the manual update I did reinstalled the missing drivers and programs. I then reinstalled my Lifecam and BAM, the sound worked and the video was still good. I just had to make a small adjustment for the microphone and video in the MSN settings to get the best and cleanest quality.
In fact: to obtain the driver for the Lifecam VX-3000, you have two options:
- Go to the manufacturer's website, that is, Microsoft Hardware, and search for the model of your cam to download the latest version of your driver.
- Type into Google the name of your Webcam + model, using good keywords by adding drivers and driver, then dig around. I found it in 5 minutes. For example: driver Lifecam VX-3000.
You can also use the Device Manager to find the driver if you lost the CD; sometimes there might still be traces of it left. Therefore, make sure to clean up any previously installed drivers and replace them with the one you intend to use.
NB: NOTE:
As I mentioned, sometimes every solution leads to another problem. Well, I solved my sound issue with my cam, but since then I have another problem. I can no longer access the settings of my Lifecam. That is, each time I click on the shortcut for my Lifecam to access its configuration, I receive a Microsoft error message. It prompts me to send an error report to Microsoft, which I do, but I can't resolve this issue. So if anyone has a solution for this, I am all ears.
See you soon, I hope.
