Question

Hello everyone

When starting Vista, the screen stays stuck on a black screen where only the white cursor is visible (mouse not frozen). It seems to me that the hard drive stops working after a few seconds.

In doing some research in forums, I saw that some people had issues with loading times for Vista, and they too were stuck on a black screen for several minutes. My machine has been stuck since yesterday!

I have tried several "hard" reboots using the button, I attempted to start in safe mode, last known good configuration, etc... same result.

I also tried the repair, but it finds nothing wrong.

I hesitate to perform a complete system restore because I have data to back up. I can't open the computer otherwise I'll lose the warranty...

I don't know what to do anymore.

Hello, I found the problem related to the black screen at the startup of Windows Vista, opening only documents and the rest doing nothing. It's a virus. It installs itself in Windows well hidden in a Windows folder. Here’s the solution: CTRL+ALT+DEL, open the task manager; File; New Task...; type: explorer.exe open WINDOWS+R to run; type REGEDIT open the Windows registry, go to > edit > Find type: explorer.exe find the following phrase: Shell=explorer.exe c:\Windows\config\spoolsv.exe double-click the command, delete "c:\Windows\Config\spoolsv.exe" and keep only "explorer.exe". Go delete the spoolsv.exe file in the CONFIG directory of Windows. It's a virus. The real spoolsv.exe file is in Windows\System32 and not in the CONFIG folder. It's a trap. Good luck!!

Hi,  I had the same problem with a laptop. The anxiety and then the frustration. I asked a friend for help but she had never seen this before!! So, back to square one, that is, to the store. So they switch from their laptop to an external monitor. What to do in this case? Wait for the battery to drain and restart the PC. You will just be able to open and turn it on. You will then see the program start automatically and then the screen go black because the battery is dead. At that moment, you connect to the power outlet and restart. Everything should then go well. At least, that’s the explanation I’m giving because I tried everything. I had this problem and I panicked (yeah, it's scary when you don't know much about bugs ^^) I simply reinstalled the graphics driver and everything was fine. I have a GeForce 8600 GTS graphics card and a brand Acer computer with the much-adored Vista (sarcastic, you guessed it ;) )

Well, the solution is simple, you just do like Narukobie said: I had this problem and I freaked out (yeah, it's scary when you don't know much about bugs ^^) I simply reinstalled the graphics driver and everything was fine. I have a GeForce 8600 GTS graphics card and an Acer computer with the ever-so-loved Vista (sarcastically, you guessed it ;) )    His solution works perfectly, and as for the cause of the problem, we don't care. What's important is that it works.

Asus X5DAB series PC, brand new under Vista. I put my PC to sleep and then couldn't restart it (blue screen with Windows recovery bar), then black screen. I tried several times unsuccessfully with "F4", "F8" and others. I removed the battery, put it back in place, and everything went back to the good old days. Here is a solution that should surely help some of you...
Boot Windows in safe mode, then type MSCONFIG in the command prompt. A menu will then appear, allowing you to disable certain services and startup options (For me, the issue came from there). Some applications seemed more suspicious than others (strange names, unknown manufacturers, etc.), I disabled them and then restarted, and voilà, everything worked perfectly!
I'm not quite sure if it's a virus or a bug in Vista, but I haven't had any problems since that day.

Thank you for the solution, but I have a solution that could maybe help you even better!!!!!!!!!! IT WORKS FOR ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When the screen is black at startup, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE and the task manager appears, then you create a new task and type explorer.exe. Once everything is launched, download ComboFix and place it on the desktop.
Then, disable the antivirus you have, run ComboFix, and let it do its job: it detects hidden viruses and removes them.
For my part, it was a success; it removed over 50 hidden viruses, and my computer is running wonderfully and it allowed me to restore it to like new.

WARNING: THIS DOES NOT DO ANY SYSTEM RESTORE; IT DOES NOT DELETE ANYTHING FROM YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOUR COMPUTER IS THE SAME EXCEPT IT IS VIRUS-FREE.

Hi everyone, here is my problem. At normal startup of Vista, the logo appears and then a black screen with the mouse cursor. No desktop, except for a notification: Windows Explorer has stopped working: (event: appcrash). If I close this window, another one comes back and as soon as I close it, another identical one appears and it goes on and on: (Microsoft Windows Search Protocol Host has stopped working.)... Hello, I have practically the same problem (but no message or window) except that mine started with the "famous blue screen of death." Thanks to the installation CD, I was able to perform a repair, but now, after loading Vista (the green bars that scroll), the screen goes black with a white arrow (the cursor can move with the mouse). Hello, I have the same problem. My screen is black at startup.  By pressing ctrl alt delete and opening the Task Manager, I can get my desktop and Windows taskbar back, but I get stuck at one point.  When I type REGEDIT in the Run dialog, it asks me if I want to continue.  I click on continue, and then there’s a message that says:   Registry editing has been disabled by your administrator.   And nothing opens, and I am the only user and administrator.  I don't understand!! I need help please.

I had the same problem with a black screen stuck with the mouse pointer. I needed to go to Start, Computer, Properties, Device Manager, Graphics Card, right-click on the name of your GPU, 'uninstall,' then restart the PC, and everything went back to normal for me. I found something that might interest you. Indeed, the same black screen problem on startup. I tried with a monitor connected to this PC. I noticed that the system had started up fine but was stuck on the external output or HDMI, the signal was good. After extensive research.. I found that in the avalanche of UPDATES from HP or other brands, there was an update for a graphics card driver...(NVIDIA)

Procedure:
Go to system, device manager, graphics card then driver, if you have a driver much newer than the date of purchase of your PC, you can be sure that it has been updated automatically and is not suitable for your card. Therefore, I downloaded the old version of the graphics card driver, then disabled the graphics card, Vista will automatically reload the default driver for the card. Turn off the PC, disconnect the power supply and remove the batteries. Press and hold the "on" button for at least 15 seconds to completely drain the PC's memory. Reattach the battery and power supply and start the boot process. If all goes well, you will have your Vista back.

Go back to device management etc... and reactivate the graphics card, and modify and adjust your graphics..!!

Thanks to the uncontrollable UPDATES.... for once it's not Vista that is to blame... phew...

So, the procedure is simply:  1/ start in safe mode (press F8 during the computer startup until you get to safe mode)  2/ go to control panel, "view hardware/devices"  3/ click on the cross next to "graphics card"  4/ right-click on your graphics card > click on properties  5/ tab "driver" and click on "previous version"   Restart the computer. Normally, the problem should be resolved.

The solution to the problem of the black screen that appears after opening the session is to recover the data installed on Windows 7. During the installation, check "keep the data from Vista." When the installation is finished, restart and then open the partition; you will find a file with the .org extension. Hello everyone!  Indeed, it's really a virus that starts when Windows boots up!  To block it, just go to the Control Panel => User Accounts => Turn User Account Control on or off => Check it and click Ok.  Restart your PC, the problem will still be present, so you need to click Ctrl + Alt + Del, open Task Manager => File => New Task and type explorer.exe => Ok, and everything will show up!  For now, I'm trying to remove it, I will keep you updated on the location. I finally found a solution that resets it: when it's on with a black screen, unplug it and after plugging it back in, open it normally and Windows will restart. It takes a few minutes and everything is back to how it was before. It worked well for me. Good luck!

Hi everyone, I found another little tip after trying everything without being able to restore the icons.
Here’s my tip: of course, try all the methods mentioned earlier first.
My method: boot in safe mode with the network adapter enabled.
Repair your antivirus using the corrupted file repair option in your antivirus, or else uninstall it and reinstall it. The problem should be fixed.

For those who have a black screen and for whom pressing ctrl alt delete does not bring up the window to launch explorer.exe, the last solution before formatting is to boot from a Windows Vista DVD (borrowed from a friend if you don’t have one), enter the initial information (language, etc.), then select the repair options, and ask to restore to an earlier date. Hello!  I'm here to share my contribution because I had the black screen problem for a week, but it was just the black screen and nothing was working. But I found a solution!  I'm sharing this to help you! (At least, this will only work for 64-bit systems)  So, if you have a Windows 64-bit system with a black screen on startup, the problem is actually that Windows is trying to launch "explorer.exe" from the system32 folder.  All you need to do is start in safe mode and copy "explorer.exe" from the C:\windows\syswow64 folder to the C:\windows\system32 folder.  And there you go! You can restart and finally enjoy your PC that you've missed so much!!!!
