I don't know many stores, but you can easily find a lens for PS2 online. Otherwise, try at "connexions," maybe they will have some, but watch out for the lens models (make sure to check well before buying one). If your play has an HD7, you can replace it with another HD7 (not great), or a KHS-400R (made by Sony, and not a sub-brand), and also the KHS-400C. Otherwise, you have several other models such as: KHS-400Q KHS-400H, etc...............  Don't worry, I've had the same thing happen with two PS2s; the lenses fail after about 2 years for the HD7. Just to help me out, what kind of chip do you have (matrix infinity, duo, duo 2, etc…)? BECAUSE, first of all, if your Play reads the original games, it’s working perfectly (meaning, no lens or reading issues). And secondly, is your chip on the motherboard of the console or on the drive? I need to know because it’s completely different in both cases. But if you had your chip installed by a professional, this problem shouldn’t happen. I know how to mod consoles, and I maintain that once a chip is installed, it works for life; it's the console that crashes and messes up, not the chip. Otherwise, your chip is of very poor quality. At your place, it’s the exact opposite; your Play works wonderfully, but your chip is no longer functioning. For me, who knows about these things, I would dismantle the console down to the motherboard, check if a printed circuit board has been added to the motherboard. If so, that’s the chip, and I would check if it’s properly connected. So, to answer your request, yes, heat is definitely not good for PS2s, so based on my experience, I advise you to disassemble the PVC case that surrounds your console (at least part of the case), this way it can breathe a little better, especially in Martinique, with an average of 28°C, it's important to ventilate.
If your Play, as you wrote, was working intermittently, and sometimes it gave you an error while reading the disk, it simply comes, not necessarily from the lens, but rather from the potentiometers (located next to the lens), which have become misaligned due to the heat, they really don’t like heat, it throws them off.
Either you have your Play checked by a professional, and then you pay around €85 to €100 for repair and labor.
OR, if you feel capable, disassemble it; the DVD potentiometer usually sits on the left side of the lens (don’t touch it, it’s not necessary, you just need to adjust the CD potentiometer), and so, you understand, the CD potentiometer is located on the right side of the lens, from the DVD potentiometer (the value in ohms for a good adjustment of the CD potentiometer for pretty much all PS2 versions is 1048 ohms).

2 solutions with the PS2:  - clean your lens:   1) unplug all cables including your controller and memory card  2) turn your PS2 upside down and unscrew the 8 screws (if you can't see them, it's because there are rubber covers over the screws; you can remove them, and if you can't, you might be able to get them off with a flat screwdriver)  3) put your PS2 right side up and remove the top (starting from the back and do it gently so you don't break the power button in front)  4) once the top of the PS2 is removed, you'll see a plastic plate with 2 screws and a yellow warning sticker. unscrew the 2 screws and lift this plate.  5) you finally reach the lens and you clean it with a cotton swab (gently, it's safer, even though I personally did it roughly and it still works, but don't follow my example, you never know) 6) now that the lens is clean, put everything back together with the screws...  - If the first method didn't work, try the second: insert your game and then turn your console completely upside down.  If these 2 solutions don't work, I have no other ideas, sorry.
