my PS2 won't launch games Solved

Question

Hello,
my buddy gave me a PS2 Slim with about twenty games, but the problem is when I start it, I always end up on the menu where it says "Browser and System Configuration" and I can't launch the games. I've checked the disc (or DVD) and it doesn't even spin, please help me.

Hi, a friend also gave me a PS2. The disc drive works randomly, actually. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I don't think the drive spins when it doesn't work. I just tried it with a DVD and it worked, but I just put in a game and it's not working anymore :(

As for the games, it's a great bonus, but maybe the PS2 just doesn't work anymore.

Do you have a memory card in a compatible slot? Because otherwise, you might not be able to save the configuration?!

Try to get it working with a DVD as well, and if it doesn’t start, you’ll need to ask your friend if it was still working when he had it.

Getting this console repaired generally doesn't cost very much, and you can find used ones for very low prices.

Of course, it doesn't compare to the PS3, but it was already a very good console with the ability to play online, and with all the games you’ve been given, it's worth having one that works.

Yes, she was working at his place and she worked for one day at mine (yesterday) and I tried with a DVD but it doesn't work either. In fact, I have the impression that the player is not turning and yes, I have a memory card (8MB) but there is no data on it, it's empty

If you have a cleaning CD, insert it and manually rotate it to clean any dirt on the reading head, and give a quick blow with a hairdryer while opening the lid, but not too close in case the change in environment creates humidity, which would prevent the reading head from detecting CDs/DVDs.

Always the same, I tried using a hairdryer and I tried cleaning the lens but nothing works :/
I think I'm going to have to resign myself to buying a new PS2, but how much does it cost approximately??? Do you have any idea?

You have the option to try your luck on eBay or here http://www.priceminister.com/s/ps2+slim which provides an extra layer of security, but since the PS3 plays PS2 games, try to get one as a gift; it's the time for presents and you'll be able to enjoy both formats ^^.
