Grey surface covers my photos.

Hello everyone!
Some of my photos are covered with a gray surface, which prevents me from seeing them (see photo).
Actually, this has been happening for a long time, after transferring them from one location to my memory card, I believe, I must have interrupted it and the transfer went wrong, but I left it aside for 3 years and now I would like to fix it.

When I'm in the file explorer, I see the entire photo on its thumbnail but only for a second, then it gets hidden by the gray stuff.

Can someone help me restore my photos please?
Or at least tell me a bit more about what happened?

      Yes, that is indeed the correct answer. The thumbnail is just a reduced version of the photo that exists in the file itself. The large photo may be corrupted but not necessarily the thumbnail.
