What modification are you talking about?

If you were to do a Clear_CMOS, it would reset the BIOS settings to default, which might undo the change you made.

And when I boot from the Windows installation DVD, it says to press any key to continue, but the problem is right there, my keyboard is not recognized right away, so I can't go any further.

I thought about completely formatting the hard drive to see if it would switch to a USB stick without touching the boot menu.
