Huge user profile size

Hello,

I am a Windows 8.1 user and I've noticed that there have been significant slowdowns during startup for some time... and for good reason! I checked the size of the user profiles... 24GB!!!!! I did a lot of cleaning and got it down to 10.6GB... while going through the Documents, Music, Videos, and Downloads folders, there’s only about 500MB at most...

P.S.: I am on an Asus R500V laptop if that is useful.

I really need help ;-)

Thank you,

Dewey

Configuration: Windows / Chrome 42.0.2311.90

    Hello

Please use the system cleaning tool as it is not uncommon for several gigabytes to accumulate in Windows files.

    Best regards.

Thank you for this response. Where is it located? Is it the disk cleanup tool in the hard drive properties?

It's done, I've deleted 2.7GB of files, but the profile is still huge...

    Hi
there is usually no relationship between the size of the user folder (profile) and the startup speed. You can put as many files as you want in your Documents folder, Windows does not load them at startup.

I'm currently testing the system cleaning solution. dsy73, would you have another solution then?

      Thank you

Search for startup programs that consume resources, particularly at the processor level. You can disable/enable startup programs using the Windows Task Manager.

Otherwise, the causes are numerous: network, drivers, services, disk, etc.

Gaining a little disk space doesn't hurt during startup, especially if memory management is on the somewhat cleared disk.

You can move the virtual memory to a non-SSD drive and increase it if there is more space, and as dsy73 said, select in msconfig the startup programs that are not essential, not for the processor but for loading these programs into cache or virtual memory.

If you have many external devices, unplug them if their connection is not essential during startup, and if you have a USB stick, use it for ready boot as well; that helps too.

Run a malware scanner and an antivirus, and after that, the computer should regain some liveliness.

      Remember to defragment non-SSD disks.

      Best regards.

I've done a lot of things since yesterday... the only thing left to do is the SSD disk operation, but I'm not really sure what that involves. It's a bit beyond me ;-)

In any case, things are a bit better with all the cleanup done (unnecessary apps, msconfig, etc.)

      Thank you!
