Hello everyone,
I'm using PowerPoint 2010
I have a series of slides (texts + diagrams) made based on an old template.
I need to transpose these slides as they are onto a new template. I am facing several difficulties:
- I haven't found a way to apply the new template all at once to the slides
- I cannot copy and paste from the 50 slides onto 50 blank slides made from the new template because the copied initial text overlaps with the new "fixed parts" of the new template.
So I have to copy and paste each diagram/text that I need to paste into the new slides, which I then adjust afterwards: a painstaking task...
The problem is that when I copy and paste, the initial text changes color (it goes from dark blue to light gray). The same goes for the diagrams: a black arrow turns red, a gray box turns green, etc., for reasons I don't understand.
Do you have a way to ensure that the copy-paste retains the initial settings? (I have tried the three types of paste, without success)
Moreover, the new template features the date of the slideshow on each slide. I can access the text box for the date to modify it, but I don't have the option to do a "find/replace all" to apply the date I want to each slide with one click. Thus, I have to enter the date manually each time.....
Do you know how to insert the date all at once? I tried with the masters, but my manipulation never applied.
Thank you in advance for your advice; I won't manage if I have to modify everything manually...

Hello,
there are several techniques to apply a new template to an existing presentation; unfortunately, none will fully satisfy you if the original presentation was not created properly.
Essentially, keep in mind that all manual interventions in the slides (that is, those that no longer follow the master) take precedence.
For colors, if you used, for example, the 3rd color of the theme, when you apply the new template, this color will be replaced by the 3rd of the new theme, etc.
Here are some techniques for applying a new template:
From your old presentation
Apply a theme: Design tab, "Search for Themes" at the bottom of the theme gallery. You can look for a theme file (.thmx) or a template (which is your case) or even another presentation.
From a copy of your new template
"Reuse Slides" in the Home tab, at the bottom of the "New Slide" list. You can check or not the box "Keep source formatting" at the bottom of the pane that will appear on the right.
If you go through copy/paste, you can display your old presentation and the template side by side and drag all the slides from one to the other using the thumbnail pane. You can also choose to keep the source formatting.
In any case, expect to go over each slide and possibly have to select the layouts specified in your master.
For the date, if the template was well designed, you don’t have to do search/replace and even less to enter it on each slide, nor even go into the master.
Look in the Insert tab, "Header/Footer". You should find the date there. Modify it and click on the "Apply to All" button.
