Hello,
Following what I read on the subject you posted to try to fix my black screen issue (Windows 8), I pressed Ctrl Alt Delete which brought me to the Task Manager. I went to File, New Task, typed EXPLORER and after a moment I see a window displaying "Windows Version Installer (2011-2014)" that says "updates are ready to install. Click NEXT to continue."
I must admit I'm a bit worried and would like to know what to do. What will happen? Will it reconfigure everything and will I lose all my folders, files, installed programs? Should I click on next or not? Or close this window and wait? Until when?
Thank you for your help.

I chose to wait and it seems like everything is back to normal :)
What do you recommend to prevent this black screen from happening again?
Do you think it was a virus? I was in the process of cleaning extensions (Vosteran, and other annoying nuisances) in Explorer and Chrome when I had to restart the computer for the changes to take effect.
What antivirus or other solution do you recommend that is free or affordably priced and non-recurring? I don't have anything at the moment.
Thank you for your attention and your response.
