Hello,

I would like to present my situation in the hope of finding a solution as you know how to do.

My ACER APIRE 5517 laptop, when starting it up, displays messages as follows:

- Check cable connection!
- PXE-M0F: Exiting intel PXE ROM.
- No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key.

What should I do to resolve this issue? Knowing that before posting this request, I did quite a bit of research on this subject but did not find an appropriate answer. They say it's a BIOS problem.

I tried to go into setup with F12 but I don’t know what to do to adjust the configuration.

Can someone please help me?

Configuration: Windows 7 / Chrome 39.0.2171.71

It's done, and I saved it with F10.


Upon rebooting, the message Check cable connection! and PXE-M0F: Exiting intel PXE ROM disappeared.

However, it now displays this:
- No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key.

Hello...

Your machine is trying to boot from a network... which it cannot find!
In the BIOS, you need to set your hard drive as the 1st boot device.....

Hi,

It is possible, and more worrying, that your hard drive is no longer recognized. Go into the BIOS, see if it is identified. If so, we'll look into why it is not booting anymore.

Boot Priority Order:

1. IDEO:
2. IDE1: Optiarc DVD RW AD-7585H
3. USB FDD:
4. USB HDD:
5. Network Boot: Atheros Boot Agent
6. USB CDROM:

How can I set my hard drive as the first boot...?

It's there... it's IDE0. Check in "main" if it's recognized correctly.... ide seems strange to me, since the disk is probably sata.

Check the tabs of your BIOS... if the hard drive is recognized, it should be identified somewhere. If you can't find it, you'll need to check in another way if it's detected, for example, with a Linux live CD.

In SATA MODE, see if you can set it to IDE....

It's done, it's now in IDE Mode but the same message is still displayed.

I tried to restore the original operating system, W7, before W8; the installation starts well and then stops because it doesn’t see the disk for the partition.

I still don't have any solutions.

@maliya... open a new topic.


@yvespeter... we were on a Linux live-cd. You've changed your strategy. I think with a live-cd, we would have had more information than with the W7 DVD.

I am only looking for solutions, I had successfully downloaded a live-cd Linux but I'm missing the procedure.

Let's go with W7, then. If you took it as is, it's probably not compatible with UEFI.

Explain exactly when it gets stuck. Then let me know if the left shift + F10 key opens a command prompt.
