Good evening everyone!
I need to upload a 3-page file containing 2 images and text to an online platform. The maximum size for uploading this file is 2 MB. My Word document is 744 KB, but once in PDF format, it's 6 MB!!!
I would like to understand where this difference comes from and how to fix it.
Thank you in advance to everyone!

The PDF is actually an image and is naturally heavier than a .doc
However, when converting to PDF, you should be able to adjust the compression.-

Hello,
I agree with Telliak's response. A PDF is not an image and doesn’t "naturally" weigh more. By default, it should even be the opposite.
However, since the 2007 version of Office, files are automatically zipped when saved. One just needs to convince themselves by renaming a .docx to .zip (and reversing it afterwards). Therefore, .docx files are lighter.
But indeed, jjpot, by playing around with the PDF conversion and thus the compression, you can definitely put it on a diet.
For Ninis, you might be able to lighten your Word doc a bit by compressing the images if they weren't compressed initially: select an image, go to the Format tab, Compress Pictures, choose the Print resolution (220 ppi). Save under a different name to avoid overwriting your original and convert to PDF.
