Password-protected SSD Solved

Question

Hello everyone,

after numerous fruitless searches, I’m coming here for help on the forum.

I have a friend who left his laptop unattended during a small party, and some joker set a password on the brand new SSD that I just installed for him, not on the BIOS, but on the SSD. So I even removed the battery from the laptop to try, but it’s still the same. I then connected the SSD to my PC, and in the disk manager, I can't even initialize it. TestDisk, DiskPart... no results. Updated the SSD firmware but still the same. I should mention that I don’t need to recover the data.

Hello   and on this SSD there is a Windows,,,,,,,,,,,on it  -- a PC is like a car? if you don't maintain it  one fine morning it won't start anymore

Except that I don't have access to formatting at all. Moreover, I've seen on the internet several times that this password is not stored as data, but stored in a chip like "ROM" and that formatting is useless, even a low-level format!??

I'm replying a little late, but if this can help someone...

In the end, I contacted OCZ support, but you need to be somewhat proficient in English since there's no support in French...!!
They asked me to return the SSD at my expense, sending it to the Netherlands (9.30€ at the post office in a prepaid bubble envelope).
After about a week, I received an email indicating that my SSD would be exchanged for a superior model. They sent me a Vector instead of a Vertex... great!!!
I don't know if it was actually a failure because I'm surprised it was covered under warranty if it was a prankster who blocked it... anyway, got a new (refurbished) SSD, and it's back on track like a charm.
