USB drive reading resumes from the beginning Solved/Closed

I struggled for several days with this problem, unable to find a solution online. Eventually, I resolved my issue and I’m sharing it here for those who, like me, are getting frustrated with it (I've noticed many people are).
I usually plug an 8GB USB drive into my car radio, which reads it without any problem. I've been using it for a year, and the playback always resumed where I had left off the previous day, which was quite nice (so after the car had been turned off, engine off, USB drive removed).
For five days now, it hasn't been working; playback would start over at the beginning of the folders, or at the beginning of a song if the engine was off but the USB wasn’t removed. The only clue: it started doing this after I added a few songs to an already packed drive.
On a forum, a guy said you shouldn’t exceed 1000 tracks. That was the thing that helped me. Everything else (removing hidden files added by Mac OS, getting rid of weird shortcuts) didn’t work. But I removed several songs, and now my car radio remembers again.
I conclude that it’s not a matter of how many tracks are on the drive (I've got a little more than a thousand), but that it's an issue of free space on that drive. Somehow, it needs space to memorize the last track played. Without that space, it doesn’t remember and starts playback at the beginning of the folders each time. Mine apparently needs 1.99GB free to perform this operation.

If anyone has more professional explanations, I’m all ears! :)

The idea that the device needs a bit of space to memorize the "position" seems good to me, but I doubt it's on the key!?
2GB for memorizing a position, how long does it take for your key to ingest 2GB on a PC? Why so much reserve?
Your device no longer uses the key when it is off, and it cannot prevent the key's LED from blinking when it is in use, so it would only write very little data to the key.

Let's test it!
You remove the usual key that would have the saved position,
Put in another key with music and have fun ^^
Then put the usual key back..

Is the backup still present and does the music continue from the last position or does the key start from scratch?

Yes, since I removed some titles, the USB stick is remembering again, meaning that when I put the USB stick back into the car radio, it resumes playback from where it left off. Basically, when it only had 1.17 GB left, it wasn't remembering what had been played, but now that it has nearly 2 GB free again, it remembers.

I don’t know why it needs that much memory. It's probably proportional to the size of the USB stick. I suppose it requires less for a smaller stick. Well, I don’t really know. That's why I would appreciate having the technical explanations from an IT specialist.

I have already had this problem and it's not due to a lack of space on the USB drive but a problem with the encoding profile that the car radio does not recognize. My USB drives are almost full (4 and 8 GB) and every time I turn off the engine and restart, playback resumes where it left off. However, if I change to a new drive, playback starts from the beginning of the new drive, which is normal, but when I put the other USB drive back, it starts from the beginning and not from where the playback had stopped.

So it's not because the USB drive needs space to function properly, but rather because of the tracks you added; you mentioned this in your explanation, because when you added songs to your already full USB drive, that's when it started to glitch.

If one track is not recognized by your car radio, then all the others cannot be played. The problem is that the tracks you added didn't have the correct encoding profile. I had the same issue with a megamix; I changed the encoding profile and now it reads it.

I use aTube Catcher; I go to YouTube, type in remix 2014, and it finds me megamixes of +/- 1 hour. I copy the link from the search bar, the one next to the back arrow, then I open aTube Catcher and click on paste (it's indicated), and the title appears in the "URL of the video" field; then in the profile, I set it to mp3 320 kbps 48000Hz (high fidelity audio). Then I click on download, and once the download is complete, I click on (open the folder); finally, I put it on my USB drive and test it on my car radio.

Yes, it's another interesting hypothesis. I had also asked myself that question, but apparently the titles I removed were not encoded in any special way (I had already put others from the same source with the same characteristics). Where can we see these specifics? I looked in "properties," but I didn't notice anything special.
But I had the same thought as RaceGame, that I should indeed have seen something appear on the USB stick.

Otherwise, I had already mistakenly mixed mp3 and wav files once, and the car radio just ignored the wav files.

I haven't tried it with another USB stick recently.

I'm back to make corrections to what I wrote.

Afterwards, I had other problems with this drive. I changed some titles, but even being careful to always leave 1.99 GB free, the drive kept resetting to the beginning.
Ultimately, I completely erased the drive and reformatted it. Since then, it has been working fine, and I was able to add more titles (so I have less than 1.99 GB free on the drive).
I think that something must have glitched during the many manipulations I made to add or remove titles; but I will never know what.

Anyway, I have resolved my problem, and this time it seems to be permanent!
