Make a USB drive bootable without UEFI

Hello,

I have a computer with Windows 8.1 on which I'm trying to install Ubuntu. I created a bootable USB drive using Lili USB Creator and everything, but when I restart the computer, it won't boot from the USB. In the BIOS, I have two boot options:
- Windows bootloader
- UEFI: Sandisk Cruzer Edge
And no matter how much I set the priority on the second option, the computer keeps booting into Windows. I tried disabling Secure Boot, but nothing works.

So I decided to test the USB drive on another computer to see... in the BIOS of that one, in addition to the usual boot options, I had:
- UEFI: Sandisk Cruzer Edge
- Sandisk Cruzer Edge
And I realized that when I choose the second option, it works, whereas when I choose the first one it doesn't work... I tried several Linux distributions, various software to put the ISO on the USB, etc... Always the same, the option with UEFI doesn’t work..

However, on the computer I'm interested in, the option without UEFI doesn't appear..

Do you have any ideas?

Thank you in advance,
Samy

    Good evening,

Check in Windows 8.1 that "Turn on fast startup" is unchecked in the power options.

Having it enabled prevents booting from a USB drive even if the boot sequence is modified in the BIOS (or its equivalent).

Yes, I'm sorry I forgot to mention it in the first message, but I also disabled Fast Startup in the Windows options.. In fact, I tried all the combinations with the options: secure boot, fast startup, and MBR/GPT for the software that makes the USB drive bootable.. nothing works :(

Thanks for your reply otherwise ;)

So, another thing that happened to me when I wanted to boot from a USB stick: I found out that none of the USB ports on my (laptop) PC allowed booting!

In this case, the ones at the front cannot be used to boot from a USB stick.

Now that I think about it, it almost seems logical to me.

    Hello,

Disabling Secure Boot is not always enough; you must enable CSM Boot, which will allow the PC to boot from a USB stick or the CD/DVD drive:
