Pb USB driver/Vista handycam sony DCR-TR14E

Hello, the USB driver that is on the installation CD of the Sony DCR-TRV14E camcorder is not compatible with Windows Vista. Where can I download a driver that will allow me to transfer my images from the camcorder to the computer running Windows Vista?

    Well, I had the same issue with the driver not being recognized for the Sony Handycam DCR-HC37 running Windows Vista.
    After some research, I found a solution for my PC to recognize this camera.
    First, you need to download the driver for VISTA here:

    Then, unzip the file on the PC, go to the directory where it has been unzipped (USB_DRV, usually), and locate the executable setup file, and here is the trick:

    You should not double-click on it but right-click on this setup.exe, go to properties, then to compatibility tab and check "compatible with Windows XP Service Pack 2."
    Next, go to the security tab and select administrator in the user names of the PC.
    Save all this, the PC will reboot, and then go back to the setup.exe and open it normally (double left click), and it works, it installs the drivers for the camera.

    For your information, I know that other users of different types of Sony cameras have the same issue, I suppose that the procedure is the same with the appropriate drivers for their camera. Give it a try and confirm for the little buddies in distress, thanks.

      For the DCR TRV -xxxx E range, it's useless to buy another brand of camcorder; Sony refuses to release an updated driver compatible with Vista or Seven, even in administrator mode. The file installs in XP SP2 compatibility mode but is useless. As for i.Link, check if a 1394 to USB converter exists; not sure about that.

    Hello,

    This Sony support page indicates that your hardware (DVR-TRV140/E) is not compatible with Vista in USB mode (definitively it seems) but works with iLink (I don't know what that is!)

    The best thing to do is to check the documentation to see what iLink represents.

      ok thanks. I just found out that the i.link is another data transfer cable. It seems specific to Sony but maybe that's not the case. I just need to buy one now...

        Be very careful, don’t buy this cable (which costs about 12 euros) for nothing. Indeed, I realized that my computer, which is not a Sony, does not have a port to connect an i-link cable, so it would have been pointless to buy one. I therefore resign myself to not being able to put my video files on my computer anymore.
        If you still have your camcorder manual, there’s a chapter dedicated to the i-link. You can then look at the shape of the cable connector and see if any of your computer's ports match it. But after doing some more research, I increasingly believe that this cable is specific to Sony, and that only Sony computers have a port for it. Still, check just in case.

    When I connect it with the i.Link cable, it is firewire and the camera is not recognized by the system; neither Windows XP nor with the PINACLE software? On the other hand, I have no problems with the standard USB cable; thanks in advance.

      Useless, Sony did not want to provide an update for i-Link FireWire 1394 available on desktop PCs, rare on laptops, and in USB mode the driver, even run as an administrator, does not work.
      Sony prefers to sell new equipment rather than fix this, it's been 2 years that I am following up on this matter.
      Including for CCD sensors. In short, avoid this unscrupulous manufacturer.

    I had the same problem as you with a DCR23. I resolved the issue by forcing the installation of the software from the original CD. In the properties of the installer, you just need to force compatibility with Windows XP SP2 and it works. Then, when connecting the camera, you must again force the installation of the drivers because it does not recognize the editor by default.
    With these manipulations, I encounter no problems.

    I have the same problem, I have a DCR TRV14E and it is not compatible with Vista, I am very angry with Sony, I told them!! Otherwise, I tried to force the installation but it doesn't work, actually it detects it and says that the driver is installed but when I start Microsoft Movie Maker, there is no video capture present, thank you!

        Hello! I think the only solution is to use the ilink, but be careful before buying the cable!! Check that your computer has a port to connect it (which is not the case for mine). In my opinion, this port should be found on Sony computers.
        So I have no way to transfer the images from my camcorder to my computer.

      The i.Link FireWire, or 1394, is different from USB; however, the driver under Vista or Seven does not work. It installs but remains obsolete as it is not compatible, even in Windows XP SP2 administrator mode. So you either work with an old XP PC or give up on the entire DCR TRV series from 12, 14, 19 up to 33. That’s it, Sony will not budge.

    Hello,
    I have the same problem with a Sony DCR-HC26. I've been editing on my PC (Windows XP) for 2 years and everything was fine. But now I'm fed up with Windows! More specifically Vista, which doesn't recognize anything at all. I can't get my mini-DV tapes onto my laptop that runs on Windows Vista. I've done the necessary updates but I keep running into the same problem...installing Macromedia Flash Player! I’ve installed 10 versions and none work. Now my laptop says:

    video import cannot find a compatible digital video device. Please check that the digital video device is properly connected and turned on.

    So if a pro can help me or give me something to try, or the best would be a solution.

    Hello everyone.
    I solved the problem with a double connection.
    The FireWire is enough to transfer image + sound to editing software.
    For those who, like me, use it as a Webcam, you also need to connect the USB.
    Otherwise, there will be no sound. Whereas before, under XP, the USB was enough for both...
