Change the numbering of footnotes (Word 2010)

Hello,

I am currently drafting a scientific paper, and I started adding footnotes as I wrote. Since I couldn't get the "restart numbering on each page" option to work, I manually inserted the numbers.

Now, I have made some modifications to the text, causing certain lines to shift onto other pages, which has also affected the footnotes, resulting in my numbering not being continuous per page. I'm looking for a way to either restart the numbering on each page (I tried using the dialog box applying it to the whole document, but it didn't work) or even to have continuous numbering (same, it didn't work).

Currently, my dialog box looks like this, and I have already hit apply several times, but my footnotes are still a mess. A little help? :)

    Hello

To have footnotes that restart at 1 on each page, simply select here in the menu you have opened, under Numbering: restart on each page

Now it’s too late. You cannot ask Word to translate the numbers added manually.
You need to start over and insert a proper footnote using Word's menu wherever you have added a manual note
