Hello,
I own two Wharfedale E50 speakers from 1978, 70 WATT RMS, and I'm wondering if they can still be used for parties like christenings or weddings?
What do you think of these speakers? They have an incredible sound; in fact, I've never been able to turn the volume up more than a quarter in a house. One of the two has a less powerful sound; if I refurbish them, are they still suitable with a modern amplifier (I also have a Kenwood amplifier from around 1980)? Thank you.

Configuration: Windows 7 / Chrome 36.0.1985.143

Hello.
I know the E70s quite well (the higher model). They are very good speakers, and actually the person who owns them used them for sound reinforcement.
However, it's not ideal for a party; you risk blowing them, especially if you don't have much knowledge about sound, which seems to be the case given your questions.
No problem with the amp you want.
However, the E70s suffered from an annoying issue: separation of the suspensions.
I recommend that before you use them, you disassemble the midrange and bass speakers.
On the removed speakers, you need to check the condition of the suspensions. The suspensions are what connect the moving cone to the fixed part of the amplifier. There is a front suspension that is visible from the outside and there is a second one (often called the spider) behind the "top" of the cone. You need to check that these suspensions are not detaching. Take a flat screwdriver and pretend to peel off the different suspensions, but without applying any force. If they are partially detached, a touch of neoprene or wood glue can be used to reattach them.
If they are detached all around the perimeter, you need to re-center them which is much more complicated.
