Service Host Process using my bandwidth

Hello,

I noticed that my connection had decreased significantly lately, so instead of complaining about my ISP, I opened my task manager and to my surprise, a process is using about 0.7mb/s constantly.

It seems to be a Windows process, but I suspect that a malicious software is using it as a cover. Or maybe my computer is updating, but then the process wouldn't have that name, right?

In any case, I am unable to clearly identify the source of this problem.
Help!

Ps: Exact name of the process: "Service Host: Local System (15)"

Hello again,

I think I've found a solution!
It works for my case so far,
If I notice that it doesn't work after a few days, I will let you know!

Here's what I found:

Hello,

I suggest my solution to solve high Ping issues.
During the beta, I was running at 40/50ms.
And for some unknown reason, since the game's release, I've been at 300/450ms.

This solution applies to Windows 10 and possibly 8.

To determine if the nature of your problem is similar to mine:
- Open your task manager.
- In processes, click on network to see the processes consuming the most in descending order.
- If it's the same problem, you should see a process called "Local Service Host" (with lots of MS services grouped).

This process was taking up almost all the bandwidth (from 0.7 to 1M).
You can stop this process, but it will return after a few minutes.
If you expand the process, you'll see a service named "Background Intelligent Transfer Service."

If this service is indeed there, go to your Windows services (either right-click on Computer, then Manage, then Services, or press "Windows key" + "R", type services.msc, and hit enter).

Look for the service in question "Background Intelligent Transfer Service," double-click on it, click stop, then disable.
You can also take the opportunity while you're there to do the same with "Superfetch," which often causes a lot of problems, especially with memory usage...

Your Ping should be good again; this service is normally supposed to update applications in the background when the bandwidth isn't being used, but it seems to take it regardless of what's running...

Beware that following Windows Update updates, these services may reactivate.

I believe this manipulation can also resolve issues on Hots (lag) and Starcraft 2 (unable to launch a game); I will confirm this and post on various forums if that’s the case.

Regards

That's it, if this solution works for you too, then it had nothing to do with malware ;) Just a "simple bug" in Windows...

Hoping to have helped you.
