Hello,
I am asking this question preventively and without any knowledge in this area,
please excuse me for any lack of clarity in the request.
I will soon be retrieving some PCs, Pentium 4, running on Windows XP, that belonged to a large French group.
They have not been used for a few years, and I was told that they were "deactivated" (?), and that there would probably be some manipulation to perform to unlock them and get them running again.
My questions are as follows:
- Have you ever addressed a similar topic (after some research I found nothing), what do companies do when talking about the deactivation of their obsolete equipment?
- Does "deactivated" mean that the operating system has become unusable?
- Do you think you know what the manipulation is to get them back in working order?
As you can imagine, all (serious) hypotheses are welcome.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello,
A few months ago, I had the opportunity to purchase a lot of 3 PCs that belonged to an administration following a hardware renewal.
These PCs, which were also running on Windows XP, had their hard drives wiped clean of any operating systems after being formatted.
I reconfigured them with Ubuntu...
The fact that they are "deactivated" might simply mean they are empty of any OS???
Bernard.
