Hello,
I have a "Compaq Armada E500" laptop with Windows 2000 OS (password lost).
I want to format everything and install XP...
But the problem is that the system cannot boot from the CD..
There isn't even an option for "boot from CD" in the BIOS setup screen..
Thank you very much to those who will help me.

Hi,
I’m surprised there isn’t an option to boot from the CD in the BIOS.
I remember installing XP on this same laptop and I didn’t have any problems. If you can’t find the option in the BIOS, try a key like Fxx for the boot options.
In any case, it’s possible.

Thank you very much for the quick response.
Yes, I tried with F11 and Fn+F11 but it doesn't work...
The startup options screen is as follows:
QuickBoot (enabled/disabled)
MultiBoot (enabled/disabled)
Boot order:
MultiBay compartment of the laptop
Laptop floppy disk
Laptop hard drive
Ethernet notebook
You notice the absence of the CD Drive option...
I tried to arrange the previous options in all possible ways... but no boot from CD..
Thank you very much to anyone who can help me.

Hi,
While looking for something else, I came across your message...
What corresponds to the CD drive on your hardware is the
"multibay compartment."
You need to enter the BIOS (F10 after the first "compaq" display screen
disappears), then in the boot options choose, for example:
- multibay compartment first
- hard drive second
- floppy disk third

Hello,
I have a laptop "Compaq Armada E500" with Windows 2000 operating system.
I want to install a network card driver.
The problem is that I don't have an installation CD.
So I would like to download the driver from the internet and install it.

I have a Compaq Armada E500, the floppy boots normally but the hard disk and the CD are not recognized. It always displays "non-system disk or disk error, replace and press any key to continue." I changed the boot order between CD and HDD to no avail. I updated the BIOS to 686N in vain. Does anyone have an idea? Thank you.
Hi Fred,
I also thought that the CD wasn't working until one day it started booting again and displayed the Win2000 Pro setup, because the CD was permanently inside. But strangely, it didn't recognize the hard drive, and since then it hasn't worked anymore. It's strange. I even removed the CMOS battery for 2 days, nothing.

Hello,
I have the same problem with a Compaq Armada E500.
In short:
- I replaced the hard drive that crashed
- I'm trying to install Windows XP from a CD but the CD won't read anymore!
- I installed Windows XP by attaching the new hard drive to another laptop
- then I put this hard drive back into the Compaq
- the system displays the menu: "start Windows normally, start in safe mode, ..."
I choose one of the options provided and then it briefly displays the Windows XP logo THEN it goes back to the menu.
- I try another one, then another ... but it always comes back to the same point.
- I changed the BIOS (by pressing F10 at startup) to enable booting from CDROM, but it doesn't want to know anything ...
- I modified the "BOOT.INI" file to display another boot menu (by placing the disk in an external rack of another PC)
- it accepted the new menu BUT immediately after it displays its own menu
AND it goes in circles infinitely ...
=> What can be done to force booting from CD?
=> How can we reset the BIOS configuration? (I already did a CLEAR CMOS by shorting the battery terminals, ...)
If anyone can provide a solution!
Thanks in advance.
