My computer won't boot from the Windows CD.

Solved

Hello everyone,

I'm reaching out in desperation, having looked on numerous forums, I can't find a solution to my problem!
My son has an ACER Aspire 5315 running Vista, and nothing works anymore; it throws error messages in quick succession at startup...

I wanted to format the hard drive to install XP instead, but the problem is that it refuses to boot from the XP CD. I've set the boot order in the BIOS (by pressing F2) to start with the CD drive as the first choice, but it doesn't want to recognize it. When I check in the Boot Manager (by pressing F12), I only see IDE 0, IDE 1, and Network Boot!

I hope I was clear, and thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

    Hello,

It's probably because the computer is equipped with a SATA disk (not directly recognized by XP).

The trick is to go back into the BIOS and change the SATA mode (from AHCI Mode to IDE Mode).

On my device, it's located in Main-->SATA MODE.

Then, restart the installation of Windows XP.

      Hi everyone,
for my part, the boot CD option had disappeared from the BIOS and the setup, changing the SATA mode to compatibility resolved the issue.
      Thanks for the tip!

No, it works, I can read what I put in it, it's just that it doesn't want to boot from it!

What can I do with another CD player?

And the CD is not damaged?
Can it be read on another computer?

Upon restarting the PC, does it not even say "press a key to boot from the CD"?

    Hello,

I would say that it doesn't smell good for the motherboard...

how many hard drives does the PC have? IDE 0 or IDE 1: one of the two is the CD drive (if only one hard drive in IDE)

why not try to restore Vista?

      There are two disks installed!

I don't have a Vista CD, and I find XP more functional!

Can you explain more to me, because I am in the same situation as you, my PC detects the [CD-Rom] (XP) but when I reboot it doesn't want to boot from the Windows CD.

    Hi

Is your CD bootable? It's not a copy, is it?

Vous êtes fatigant avec ça, même si c'est une copie, c'est bootable.

    Well...
Silly question, but when you press F2 to put the CD first, do you save when exiting (F10)?

I had already tried this maneuver, but it doesn't change anything, thanks anyway :)

You must have already checked, but if you don't see the drive at startup, that's probably where to look:

    - Is it properly connected (both IDE and power-wise)?
    - Is it not dead?

I would check the connections and then try with another CD drive.

    See you soon.

I did it, I managed to format my disk and install XP. After trying numerous things, I finally saw the famous "start with the CD..." appear at boot.

Without knowing exactly what worked, thank you all for your help :D
