Hello,
I need help installing Windows 7 Pro on an Acer laptop that was running Windows 8 in German. After formatting the 1TB hard drive, the system no longer recognizes the CD or USB drives. With gparted, I reformatted the drive to GPT and tried to install Ubuntu 12, which installs fine but after ejecting the CD, the screen goes black.
Also, I noticed that in the BIOS, it is impossible to change the Boot Mode, which is stuck on: UEFI, so I cannot switch to Legacy.
I'm at my wit's end and would greatly appreciate any help if someone has a brilliant idea.
Thank you in advance
Kemoden
P.S.: With a Windows 8 DVD, the installation reaches the following message:
Your computer needs a media driver that is missing. This could be a DVD, USB or hard disk driver. If you have a CD, DVD or USB flash drive containing this driver...

Here is Acer's BIOS update to access legacy.

I tested it and everything is fine, but activate the F12 boot menu in the BIOS.
There is a PDF tutorial to ensure success.

    kemoden;
You need a special version of Win8 Pro and not just any version to boot, then you have to flash the BIOS with a flash that I can send you by email. I've been through the same ordeal as you but it's fixed now. BC

I have the same problem as this one except that my hard drive has failed, and I have the BIOS version that does not have legacy support. How do I go about reinstalling Windows 8? Thank you.

Hello, I’m going to share my experience.

I bought a used Acer Aspire V5-431 laptop for parts.
The symptoms? BIOS inaccessible (via F2), non-functional boot menu (via F12), inability to boot from the CD drive, just like from a USB stick, and to top it all off, an error message saying "Operating system not found."
I knew I was taking a risk but it was worth it (looking back, I can say yes).
After testing all the solutions proposed in various forums (Flashit, clear CMOS (hardware or software), Phoenix crisis, Flashdos, USB floppy drive, keyboard key combinations, etc...),
I managed to install Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 by proceeding as follows:

I acquired the laptop without a hard drive. So I inserted a new 2.5 SATA drive.

    Prerequisites:
    - The Windows 7 DVD
    - A USB stick (32-bit format)
    - The latest Acer BIOS related to my laptop.

    Actions:
    - Unzip the BIOS executable using software (7zip or Izarc) and then copy all the contents to the USB stick.
    - Plug the USB stick into a USB port on the laptop (turned off)
    - Insert the Seven DVD into the drive.
In fact, I’m trying to force the BIOS update (a feature built into ACER laptops)
    - Hold down the "FN+Esc" keys on the laptop and then power it on.
The power light should turn on but the screen should remain black.
After a few seconds (for me about 20 seconds), the laptop starts to work, and an animation appears on the screen.
    - Release the "FN+Esc" keys and let it work

While I was expecting to see a flashing process, it was the Windows 7 loading menu that appeared. The rest is quite standard for those who are used to installing Windows.
Note that I still do not have access to the BIOS as I haven’t had time to look into it. I actually installed Windows 8 to fix that.

I hope this will enlighten you :-) .

Hello Musapha, I'm interested in your flash even though in the meantime I managed to activate it.
The downside is that since then, it's impossible to switch to a newer BIOS on the Acer Aspire V5_531. What software is being used?
