Unable to insert a table

Hello,
I'm using Word 2013 and I'm encountering the following problem:
When I try to insert a table, I click once on "table" and then with my cursor, I should be able to choose the size. But when I click on "table" and move the cursor, nothing gets selected in orange. If I click, the menu closes. Obviously, my table does not appear. I also can't click on the other options in the menu. It's not that they are greyed out, it's just that they are not selectable.
Do you have any ideas?
