Frozen VLC image, sound ok

Here it is, I have the default driver that Vista installs at the beginning with which VLC works (ugly image).

I had exactly the same problem (frozen image but sound okay under VLC) but the DivX played without issues on Media Player Classic and others.

Installing VLC http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/0.8.5/win32/ 0.8.5 completely resolved the issue (looking forward to a patch for the latest version of VLC)

VLC 8.6.b apparently this is the latest version and this problem appeared after installing the driver for my graphics card...

You need this version of VLC http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/0.8.5/win32/
Version 0.8.5 is due to a compatibility issue with the display management in Vista, which differs a little from XP.

I solved this issue (VLC 2.1.3):
Tools>Preferences>Input/Codecs>"Codecs":"Hardware decoding": select "Automatic".

Strange, it smells like a CODEC problem, yet VLC doesn't need a CODEC.

Are you using the latest version of VLC?

On VISTA + WMP11 to watch anything other than WMV or MPEG, you either need a codec pack or to install FFDSHOW. The latter allows DIVX and XVID playback without CODEC.
